Identify what this is
So I'm standing at the broker and some puts in 'say' chat, some weird crap I've never seen before. I've heard of people with programs to search the broker and auto buy items at certian prices and curious if this is what they're up to, or is it simething more sinister?? What makes it suspicious, is when I ask wtf it is, they say they arent paying attention to chat and have no idea. haha then they say the same thing again.

Re: Identify what this is
Google shows them as broker search options if you use search_stores, which likely means he's macroing everything, or it could be he uses a wonky UI that accidentally directed the command wrong.

It's a broker bot program. With that program, you can park your toon in front of a broker, and it will make constant searches based on your predefined search terms, and then will automatically buy based on your settings. For example, you can use it to buy all hanging roots that go on the broker for less than 5 silver, named master spells or fabled loot you specify that is placed on the broker for less than X price, etc.
No, I don't use this shit myself, but I'm fascinated by the mechanics of it, and make a point to know about all the EULA-violating 3rd party programs available for this game. The technology of many of these programs are currently nothing short of amazing.
I believe the reason that EQ2 doesn't permit people to buy from rooms, and only from brokers, is based on programs like this.
The lesson for the day is how do you spot a broker botter? Easy - it's the toon that is parked in front of a broker day after day, just standing there. You'll never be able to tell that's what it's doing, because it never moves, unless it fucks up like this and dumps a command into say or chat.

true but i also know some people who remote acess their machines at home from work to check the brokers, so they will be standing at the brokers all day as well but its not 3rd party software.

Accessing remotely is much different than unattended operation of your toon by a scripting program.
I agree that a toon in front of a broker during working hours is one thing, but one in front of a broker 24/7 is something else.

Re: Identify what this is
Are they using OCR to read the broker contents or plugging into the network protocol?

Re: Identify what this is
Well, whatever it is, I don't think it's legit. Because when I questioned him, he acted like he had no idea wtf I was talking about. He wouldn't even respond when I told him to scroll up and look for himself. It's funny how they think they can just be like "oh i don't know what you are talking about", and expect people to believe that shit, when it is right there in front of a whole group of people and "said" by that very person. Then they do it again, and again try to play it off like it's not right there in front of my eyes and everyone else standing there. Fucking idiots. I told him (something like) "well dude you must have a hacker in your computer that likes getting into your eq2 game and typing worthless stuff in "say" and also has a way to hide it from you....you better get some protection on your computer cause everyone standing here sees that crap and it doesn't look legit." Then no response.

It enters the search terms you define into the advanced broker screen, and buys whatever meets your pre-set spending and quantity limit criteria. It works based on screen mapping.
