Im serious in this

Give the Guides more power and make them the "police" in EQ2 or whatever you wanna call it. Give them the ability to suspend a persons account for 24 hours and automatically send a report to a GM they report to so he can investigate the account properly... Only problem is that some people would probably misuse it. Just in the 6 months i was in the Guide program i think i received like 20 tells about Plat farmers, plat sellers or the likes, and i found like 40 grp of plat farmers on my own just running around in the different zones - ofc petitioned them all, but its not like SoE listen more to the guides than players, so alot of the time it was just the same automated reply and then you see the bots running around the next day...

They fucked up guiding back in march of 2002 (on eq1 at least). They took away our CS power and left us with the ability to "roleplay" summon corpses and players, rez and /kill mobs utw. woot! They did this because of some asshole who abused his power. I highly doubt they will ever give guides power again especially EQ2 guides. Eq2 guides are a total joke. You can sit in town or noob island and I believe now they let you go to CL / ant. woohoo!!! Everyone should just leave the guide program untill they stop the bullshit.

I've never bought or sold plat, but the instant someone offers me a million bucks, you can count me in!! I have a hard time believing anyone here wouldn't sell plat for a million bucks, and presuming that is true, the only thing we are haggling about is the price. What stops me, is that I don't think the price is worth it. Costs too much to buy, and you don't get enough if you sell.

I just don't see the harm, personally. (And I understand some here are vehemently opposed) Someone wants god knows what, and instead of burning their own time for whatever reason, they want to burn their money. What do I care? If everyone in the game, except me, was given an infusion of 3.2 billion platinum tomorrow, I would be able to deal with it.

An interesting related note is, alot of people who seem to be wildly opposed to buying/selling plat, are logged on constantly to get help via Alakhazam or whatever. Isn't the same concept at play here? People didn't "work" for the quest reward, they just read what to do, where to go, and reaped the work of others.

Lack of entitlement is the harm. It's not just limited to EQ2, and not just limited to games. People want to get things they didn't earn, and trivialize the accomplishments of those that DID earn them by just buying what they should have worked for.

Wow, so you basically want to have the same old rules of Forum moderation apply to in-game suspensions? Are you are aware that Guides are just players like everybody else, and giving them more power is NOT the thing to do.

Since he is/was a guide for 6 months, I'd say yes.

Then he's a fucking moron. Because I can assure you that all this would do is cause people to go power mad and start suspending people in the top guild on the server to make it so they won't be getting ww1sts against their guild. Of course it's going to get abused, which is why guides should not have any power. Guides aren't paid by SoE, they are volunteers. Volunteers should never have any form of power, since they can abuse it mostly unchecked.

I have once when I saw 3 masters on the broker I had never seen and they seemed to be at a good price. By the time I got my plat, 1 was gone but I managed to get the other 2.

Honestly, for people that can't devote 6 hours a day farming masters/harvests/shineys (or have your wife do it as someone said) but still want to run with the big dogs, I have no problem with it. When I was in high school or an undergrad in college and had no life/responsibilities I would have hated the idea of this, but when your life changes and you realize that spending hours upon hours trying to make money in an online game and then goto RL work and do the same thing, its just dumb. No offense to people with low-stress/easy jobs where you get to twiddle your thumbs all-day while playing on Newgrounds instead of working.

I'm probably going to get flamed hard for this, but I don't really care.

EDIT: Oh btw, lets talk about people who spend money on LoN booster packs and then sell the cards for plat... Its the SAME THING, just more hassle and is risky.

Thats what i read too.

Manrat, thats a good point, but if you're going to say using alakazam (or eq2i) is akin to cheating, then you'd also have to say that visitng eq2flames is cheating as well. It gives you a Huge edge over people who don't.

There are differences, though, between buying plat and using the web for research. The principal one is that selling plat is against SOEs rules, while looking up quests or getting help playing your class online is not. I used to play questing muds that had strict rules against getting quest hints, but thats just not the case here. The second difference is that the plat selling/pharming affects the game economy much more than getting some undeserved quest items which are generally no trade. But the game economy is self healing. If everybody on the server but me bought 1 million plat tomorrow, I'd get some of it eventually, cause what are they going to do with the plat? But my overpriced masters, thats what.

Speaking of which manrat, are you ever gunna let the rest of us bid on those 4 masters?
