I suppose the least I could have done was visit Wikipedia before starting this thread. My "expertise" for years was with writing rich-UI client apps and specialized server software that dealt with assloads of data but didn't need to scale to hundreds of users. Only very recently with this new job have I had to get into the severe nitty gritty with networking and internet laws.

That said, I'm not the first to ponder why Al Qaeda and other organizations seem to be operating websites with impunity.

Funny, you're mentioning this well after the fact. The issue was closed because the activity would have been deemed illegal.

But on the other hand, if you'd like to clearly explain to us how this website deserves the same disruption that a plat selling website ought to receive, I'm all ears.
