Get down to your local college and ask about programming courses.

As part learning to program, you will also start to understand a lot of the jargon too. Ask to learn Turbo C ++. Especially if you want to make a living doing this stuff.

I graduated in 1994 with a Computer Sciences degree, and learnt the usual Pascal, COBOL, C++ etc etc, but felt my future was in ORACLE and building and designing large databases .... For this you use SQL and Structured Systems Design and Modelling techniques and tools. Otherwise known as Methodologies.

You should get the feel for where you want to specialise, once you start to understand more.

First thing though, if you really are interested, is to go to your local college and ask.

Just got a job hookup, theyre all using .NET stuffs. Hes gonna sit down and teach me, AND i'm getting paid / working on getting my degree. i r teh lucky.

But any websites and stuff with good tutorials? I just went thru like 20 on asp.net but they were meh

All my major leaps and bounds in learning came from spending hours in bookstores or computer stores and feeling out good computer book(s) to purchase on the subject at hand. Website tutorials never did much for me. A good book can cost you $40-50 but it's damn worth it.

Some will disagree, but I prefer learning C before C++/C#. OOP gave me nightmares and I found it beneficial to already have a solid C base.

couldnt agree more. and actually solid C is all you need. a little bit of shell scripting here and there, a solid pack of C and some ugly perl scripts is all it takes to get things done
i wouldnt worry about OOP unless you have to deal with data structures which are too complex to be mapped to records and binary trees.

and IF you want to try to come up with some graphic fluff you could get your hands on GTK or QT... but well... good programs are controlled via command line switches ;)

Why the fuck do you care?????? Does it directly effect you, your ability to play the game or your enjoyment of the game? Who the hell cares!!! Not everyone that buys plat tweeks toons. I buy plat and decorate houses and guild halls for my enjoyment. Now, I'm going to have to start charging people for my services b/c I can no longer spend my hard earned RL money on stupid fucking game plats without risking being banned by SOE. That sucks!
