Yes, then we can get a web portal going for this issue (Slashdot coverage for sure :P). Unless somebody already knows of a good one, perhaps?

You do know that Spaming a fax machine IS illegal.

It has been for a while most people do not prosecute on it. And if it is a overseas number then there is nothing that can really be done about it here. But In the USA, spaming a fax machine is illegal.

Congress won't try and stop virtual coin businesses just to appease "gamers." How many of us vote? Even if all of us do, the perciption is we are all kids in mommy's basement screaming for Hot Pockets.

No. Don't write asking for a ban. Ask for them to tax it. Explain how much real revenue is generated by these businesses and demand it be taxed. Demand tariffs be placed on it as an import into this country.

The political community of concerned gamers isn't just you and I here in some little ambitious eq2flames.com thread. It includes millions of players and even the multi-million-dollar MMORPG vendors themselves.

Taxing implies legitimacy, which is contrary to our belief that the illicit enterprise needs to be hampered and destroyed.

Except, you'd be amazed by how many people in WoW actually buy gold. I'd easily predict it to be 30-50% of the WoW population. Fact is, people don't want to play the game to get nice stuff, they want instant gratification which means they want lots of gold, so they can buy that flying mount.

On the bright side, that would mean 50%-70% of the WoW population are indifferent or against it. That combined with the vendors is still formidable. Bigger laws have been passed on behalf of far smaller interests.

And lest anyone forget, South Korea's legislation is still something that can be referenced in any argument.

Where there's a will, there's a way.

Point taken and conceeded.

I cannot see this government taking any measures to stop it unless they had a clear incentive. It is one thing to say how disruptive they are. It is an entirely different thing to try and criminalize it.

All it takes is the right lobbying at the right time. Bitching fervently is a great start, not to mention opening peoples' minds to this potential avenue in the first place. Give it time to snowball and it will.

Government's incentive to do anything at all is for the benefit of the people. It doesn't exist for its own sake.
