Home About Is Raiding Where the Money is?
I guess for guilds that raid on a nightly basis, their dependency on out of guild items diminish, living solely off the guild’s resources and abilities which make them self sufficient. Providing food/water, adept IIIs, Poisons, Arrows, etc… Maybe a fraction are very hardcore gamers, with the ability to acquire additional capital resources from instances, groups, broker selling, etc… when not raiding or doing guild groups for access, questlines, etc…
The reason for the above statement is because that raiding is not a get-rich-quick scheme. Which I’m starting to find out in the casual amount of time I raid. And with raids taking a good portion of the evening, It’s a raid and head to bed type of night. Raiding’s really only tangible reward is the loot that you acquire by DKP (in most cases). So you don’t walk home with anything more than a repair bill, which could run anywhere from a couple of silver to [edited out link to platseller site] PER CHARACTER. In my case, that could be as much as 50G to cover both characters. Raiding a couple of nights a week can make this an expensive hobby, especially for those who do not have the time to be able to acquire additional income due to lack of playing time availability.
I laugh a little bit, because I always assumed that the fabled out raiding UBA guilds were always the richest players in the game, running around with a limitless amount of plat, laughing at the noobs as they run by. But I really don’t think that’s the case. I would assume that because they are raiding all the time, that they do not have enough time to farm those named in SOS, or run a couple of instances. No, they are in a raid zone with 20 other people going afk and doing the dirty work, working his butt off for a possible DKP buy of an item. I guess raiding is not all of what it seems. Duoing gave me an independent, atonomous ability to not have to worry about money, or [edited out link to platseller site] on that item I’ve been wanting. It’s an animal all its own.
So next time you run across that raid tank, AFK at the Qeynos Harbor, don’t be jealous of his gear. Just imagine what he had to go through to get it…. that may change your outlook on it.
