Most Excellent
Man I wish SOE had the features of this board. Ignore actually hides people messages.

Re: Most Excellent
There are even more cool admin features with the newer version of this software.
One feature allows me to put a user on ignore *globally* for all other users. This would allow the user to see his own posts, but blocks everyone else from seeing them. So that would be much cooler than just banning someone, since it would appear to the person that nobody cared about what they posted any more, because nobody would respond to it. In theory, the person would just eventually quit trying to be an annoyance and move on to happier hunting grounds.
I haven't had to use that tool yet, but can't wait to try it.

That's exactly what I did as a moderator on another board. One of the site rules for that board was to post intelligently, and the moderators would generally be lenient about it (c'mon, it's the internet) by generally offering advice on how to do so before actually doing anything negative.
Well, some people don't get it or just want to be assholes, so when they start violating that particular rule, we make them invisible to the world. This was more effective than banning, and a way less confrontational way to get rid of someone. Banning wasn't as effective since they could just make a new account, especially if they were on a proxy server (I didn't have access to the same logging capabilities you do). So satisfying.

LMAO this was actually used as entertainment but an effective pest eliminator to an idiot we had once. We did this to him and he went on and on for hours ranting and raving slinging racial slurs threatening people only admins and mods could see it and the poster. After a few days we dumped all his posts to the sandbox (anything goes forum) and let the rest of the board see them. OMG it was awesome and you could actually see him start to unravel towards the end. Classic and yes vBulletin FTW. It's great stuff :D
