The need for a General Discussion section - Page 2

I wouldn't mind a change, but from what I've read in the OP, there's already sections where that stuff is posted. But, it's not my choice.

I think the idea is that there will be a general site and eq2 related forum, and a more moderated on-topic forum for more serious eq2 topics.

A general forum will give LFG a place to post contests and fun stuff that are eq2 related, as well as fluffier eq2 topics. And the new forum can have a stronger standard that will appease those that wanna keep things more high brow.

"Everything Else of Everything Else" is the 2nd most frequently posted-to forum, and moving it to the top section is simply rational for usability. The Befallen boards don't count because that is composed of Calbiyum's spam thread, which is approximately 100% bullshit.

just an idea. some people scroll some don't. you have to scroll through the class forums and server sections to get to everyting else forums. how about putting the everything else forums under the eq2flames center stage. i know class forums are more important.

I like scrolling to the bottom, I usually just turn my mouse scroller down as fast as possible, since I seem to live in the everything else section, kind of hard to post elsewhere as I haven't played in a while. Anyways, if you guys don't like scrolling there is always the ability to collapse each section, just wish it memorized how you last left everything.

maybe putting the new moderated general discussion forum in the class discussion area would be a good place for it since that zone is already moderated and designated topical/no spam. possibly change the name of the class discussion zone to game discussion.

Please vote in the poll I added.

I want to add a new "Serious General Discussion" section in the top portion of this site.

If I do that, however, our "Everything Else" and "Admin Requests" sections in the lower portion of this site will be somewhat redundant. So I want to eliminate one of these existing sections and merge it into that new "Serious General Discussion" section.

You choose. My preference is to leave the "Everything Else" section as it is now, a NGD-style section with reasonable spam and trolling tolerated. If I did that, I'd move all the posts presently in the current "Admin Requests" section to the new section.

In my opinion, raiders and others who've been advocating the need for a "serious non-gameplay discussion" section at the top of the site prefer to be segregated from "NGD people". That's cool with me, it's not exactly apartheid or anything, and people would be free to make "non-gameplay discussion" threads and posts EITHER in the top "serious" section or in the bottom "Everything Else" section. Under this plan, the "Everything Else" section would not be moderated more than it is now or otherwise affected in any way.

One thing for sure, the new top "serious non-gameplay discussion" section will be much more heavily moderated than the bottom "Everything Else" section if my suggestion is approved. All "sentence fragment" posts (hihowareu, I likez piez, lolz! etc.) will be deleted in that new section, and all reply posts with expressions of outrage that a post was deleted will also be deleted.

I will be using my highly subjective and often fallible judgement to delete all retarded bullshit in the new section, if that is what people want, but will never delete any post that is reasonably on topic to the thread and includes at least one complete sentence with facts or opinions relevant to the topic of the thread. Based on my lack of time and job responsibilities, I will also consider appointing ONE publicly known volunteer to mod that new section, with the understanding that it is their section, and what they decide will not be reversed except based on a clear abuse of discretion.

dude save yourself the drama and just run a RSS feed to the official forums.
