Please do not take this as a complaint, more a request to help you out. I copied this to Niber as well.

My signature was way beyond site guidelines, and you asked me to shrink it. I did so. I go to threads now, and I see huge and even huger (is that even a word?) signatures every day.

Seriously, I can't expect you or Niber to see every post, every signature, every user. That's ridiculous.

Instead, can it be coded like the eq2 forums used to be, where the signature would just cut off if it was too big? That would self-police all the huge-sig people, and net you 1 less hassle to deal with.

Either that, or hire (read, get a volunteer) someone that has privledges to blank signatures that are too big. Don't give them the option to change their signature, but instead just blank it, forcing the offending user to re-do their signature per site guidelines. Hell this could easily be done with a seperate quick and easy .php page, where the volunteer just logs in, puts in the offending user's username, and the script edits the offender's signature to either blank, or some template that expains that the signature was blanked due to site violation. If you wanted to get crazy, it could also mark the user's account, and if it has another violation in 6 months or whatever timeframe you suggest, it would remove their privledge of changing their signature, sans EQ2's /lastname policy.

Just a thought - trying to take some things off your plate.

(And if you take my latter suggestion, no I cannot be the volunteer - I'm simply not active enough on the site. Well, I could, but I wouldn't be as effectve as some others that could do it. I simply have too much on my plate as is.)

I sent that suggestion to him after I witnessed at least 2 signatures that were ridiculously huge. Instead of being a whiner or complainer, I provided 2 suggestions that would help him out.

I was told to report any signature that violated guidelines. The first PM was sent on the 11th, LFG responded on the 12th.

I most certainly didn't want to go apeshit and fill up his PM box, so I attempted to provide a means of self-policing by asking a very generic question - "What do the signatuer guidelines mean?" 3 people read my post, had signatures that were too big, and posted in the thread. That, to me, says "Hi LFG look at me! I don't give a rat's ass what you say, I'm going to do what I want - and I'll flaunt it in your face, too!"

I reported 1 signature to him that was not only extremely large in both filesize and image size, but it was vile in my opinoin. (Not my site, so I'm not the one to determine what's vile or not - but yes I offered my opinoin.)

LFG responded with a direct response to send him a list of all the people that violate the signature guidelines, and he's take care of them.

I sat on it for 5 days, as I was actually dreading going through a few pages and writing down usernames that violated the rules. It wasn't until 2 or 3 retarded threads where it ended up being hundereds of spamposts that I decided to start writing down names. You idiots (referring to the spammers that had signatures too large) weren't even discreet with the fact that your signature was fucking huge. Sure, some were only barely in violation - but I wasn't asked to provide a list of people that violate the rules minus those that only barely violate them - I was asked to provide a list of all the people that violated the signature rules, and that's precisely what I did.

Did I miss a few people? Yes I sure did, but that's because I didn't go through each of the usernames on the website - I only scrolled through 2-3 threads and wrote down the offenders that I saw.

When I PM'd LFG the list I informed him, if he would like me to post it publically I would. He requested I do so, and here we are today. I knew that posting it would cause some backlash, but never expected Faabio to go complete apeshit like he did.

In summary, this isn't a instance of someone calling the "ruler police" becuase their neighbor's lawn was too long. This is a situation where I offered a solution to help the administration of an ever-growing website, was given a request, and provided the requested information.

Now, if you don't mind, quit being so goddamn butthurt over being told to reduce your signature size. This is his site, ya'know. At least he didn't reset your precious postcount.

I suppose we could, but this is where a gray area comes into play.

It was solely Luc's decision to how to advance the situation, rather than just letting it go he decided to act like the little bitch child everyone now knows he is. While someone else may of been a deciding factor in this chain of events, it lyes strictly upon Lac's shoulders for how he perpetuated the chain of events into the debacle before us today!

Luc sent me a PM, and I asked him to post his list. He did that, and I appreciate it. Sigs were out of control, and needed a site wide correction. What he did served as the catalyst for that correction. Hopefully now we can go through another long period where people generally follow, rather than flaunt, this basic rule without having to be constantly reminded about it.
