This sounds like an argument I had with a marketing PHB... in 2001.

Counter-argument: The casual people who log in once a day to check the dev tracker might actually log in multiple times a day, everytime a dev post pops into the RSS feed.

Possible, I'm using my own browsing habits as a guide. When the official feed wasn't available I frequently checked EQ2players solely for the dev tracker. Since it was added here? I haven't been back.

So, if I wanted to implement this myself...

• If I produce a perl file, can it be hosted on eq2flames?
• Should I screen-scrape in perl, or is there a way to actually run the database query directly and format the results?
• Is eq2flames running a customized version of some forums software that I can go download and play with?

Ok, I guess it's "vBulletin"? Unfortunately, that's not free, so I won't be doing any work on it.

Edit: The search page actually only returns the first x characters from the post, so for most posts the users would have to visit the site anyway to see the whole thing.

FYI - There are some good tools out there to convert any webpage into RSS, but they won't work because the search page requires you to be logged in.

That's not technically true. They can work, you just have to figure out how the session id works and all of that, and it'll connect.

I'm not sure how vBulletin does this, but usually session IDs are valid only for a limited time, then they timeout.

But hey, prove me wrong! Can you come up with a URL that will let you render the search results page for the dev tracker without being logged in to eq2flames?

I'm quite sure I can get this working in PHP, except that the search spam verification keeps timing out. Is there a URL I can hit to run the devtracker search that won't expire?
