Links to posts seem to change...
So last week or so I noticed I got a bunch of "page not found" errors after the LU42. Figured the site was still having problem, but post bot was still showing new posts.
None of the threads I had opened in firefox opened however, (still getting page not found), but i noticed people were able to post to the thread, and it was showing on post bot!
I noticed in the URL had the forum name as a virtual directory in the post, but after I got the page not found, everything was a straight php file off the root.
So http://www.eq2flames.com/unrest used to work, now it's http://www.eq2flames.com/forumdisplay.php?f=33
That's broken a lot of links too. It seemed to be fixed, but then poof, about 20 minutes ago they broke again.
Ideas?

Niber has obviously forgot to re-enable vBSEO after his last restart.

This has been repeatedly explained in other posts.
We used a system app called vBSEO that converts PHP into HTML. This site runs PHP rather than HTML. The reason we used vBSEO to convert to HTML is because HTML is native to the Internet, PHP is not.
With HTML, our pages appear on many times more Google searches than with PHP. It is 10 times faster for Internet search spiders such as Google to index HTML than PHP, which reduces the load on this server when they are indexing. And our Alexa score (Internet traffic site rating) is many times higher with a HTML site than a PHP site. With a high Alexa score, we can attract better and higher paying advertisers than with a low score. The site makes more money with HTML pages. Also, HTML pages are just easier and less confusing for users to link and use.
So Niber has been fucking with the vBSEO program since we upgraded servers this past weekend, since I paid $400 for the fucker and have been whining to him about fixing it.
What you have described is nothing more than Niber turning vBSEO on and off, trying to tweak it and get it to work again. Please be patient, he will either get it to work soon or we will throw up our hands and say fuck it and give up.
Thank you

Sorry for the redundant post. Thought I was a genius for a minute, then just realized I was just a moron. agressiv

Shame there aren't really very good alternatives to vBSEO, at least not that I've found. I saw one other SEO product on VBulletin.org, and it didn't seem very good.
Hope you get it worked out!

The previous version 3.0.0 (I think) ran the CPU about ~40% higher than normal. The new version 3.0.1 *only* increase it by ~20%, which is still frustrating. I've been working with their support so hopefully something can be done.
Hows VGTact doing? I remember visiting your site during my short stint at Vanguard.

Re: Links to posts seem to change...
It's doing fine enough - things have slowed down but that's widespread across Vanguard. Doesn't require too much in the way of upkeep from me. I make sure it doesn't explode, but it's very self sufficient these days.
And as much as I loved a few little things about Vanguard, I couldn't keep playing. I'm back to sampling EQ2 and hoping another neat game comes along.
