Yes friends, based on the opening of our new Vanguard site, and the ongoing technical struggles we've been having with this one, we will be upgrading to our own dedicated private server today, and both sites will be on that new server, with 2.5 times our current bandwidtch, and about triple our current memory.

Future server speeds on this site should be double or better what you've been used to in the past, with no problems or downtime (heh, that's easy to say).

Anyway, this is the message I received from tech support:

You'll receive your login information within a few hours, then you can start setting up the VPS. If you need some help moving your sites from the shared server to the VPS, I would recommend you first close your forums (so no posts are lost), then reply to this ticket with your VPS root password and account information for your two sites and we can transfer them for you. The DNS changes would take about four hours to complete and voila, you're running on the VPS.

Ok dudes, you get the picture. Last time we moved, we lost posts, user registrations, etc. The ONLY way to handle this correctly is to shut the site down today. Be patient, this is a one time deal, just come back after the site comes back up.

Problem is, we would only be able to run a vanilla version of our forum software on any host, none will provide root access based on security issues between PHP and NT.

I think Windows is the Paladin version of the Internet, we need to be more like a SK and run Unix. =p

Actually, we going from 100 gb bandwidth to 250, I'm able to upgrade one last time to 500 if needed, but I just can't see that happening, unless VG is an enormous commercial success and people actually use that site.
