Was curious as to why files cant be over 195.3 KB big.

I spent some good time last night making a new animated avatar and when i finally got it all said and done i couldn't use because it was 244 KB.

Also remember there is a 90 x 90 pixel limit on avatar size. If you try and upload an animated avatar larger than that, the system will reduce the file size to 90 x 90, and then the animation won't work.

The reason for the size limit is to keep things from getting out of control horizontally, so that one user's name/avatar section doesn't break the horizontal plane in posts, it just looks bad. If you had a legit reason for needing a larger avatar, I'm willing to consider it. Let me know if that was part of the problem.

244KB is a sizable chunk when the bandwidth is coming from the forum site.

I have a 90x90 animated avatar that is 111Kb. I can neither upload it (24K? damn) nor link to it from another host. Is this all by design?

Odd, Henladar's avatar is 243.4 KB (249245 bytes) (90x90).

The upload form currently caps it at 29.3 KB.
