The "point of no return" for edits in all forums of this board is set at 24 hours.
I originally was going to make this a "no edit" board entirely, but I know that in my case, I usually edit a long post several times after I post it.
So, I felt that allowing edits for one day after to be a fair amount of time to correct major errors within the post. After one day, you are sol. I wanted to cut off at one day for the exact reasons you described, I hate hate hate when people decide they want out of an argument and delete everything they've posted in a thread, as I've seen done on the SoE forums many times.
If you all think the time to make edits should be shortened, I'd be happy to do that based on majority consensus, provided we kept it at one hour at least.
Also, I set a secondary editing timer. If you edit within 10 minutes, your post will not show the "edited by X at X time" comment. Edit after 10 minutes and it will. I wanted to do that to give people a reasonable amount of time after each post to make corrections without making it looked like they modified content for whatever reason.
I would be happy to include a "political discussion" only section in this forum if at least 10 or so users indicated they would use it.
