Default No Edit, and Political Forum

Having run a flame board for a while (remember "page 8"?), turning of editing is a pretty good idea given it makes people think about what they are posting, and doesn't let them change their flame at a later date which is especially good after someone posts something particularly retarded. It also eliminates the need to quote a previous person's post so you can be sure to capture the context you are actually replying to rather than a context that may be changed at some later date.

Additionally, splitting politics out is usually helpful to the general discussion. Some people love politics and some don't wanna know.

QFFT! I hate politics, I usually don't "get" it, so I'd be more than happy to have an additional forum of topics I don't have to read ;)

The Offtopic Forum is good enough for politics

too many forums is a bad thing. Don't want to read it, don't click.

Definitely definitely definitely agree with disabling the edit function in the hottest areas. You don't want a 40+ page thread to lose it's flare when someone suddenly turns pansy and runs back and edits their post essentially rendering the thread empty in places. B/C it happens all the time, people always rethink what they have typed and run to change it after thinking about it more.

With vB it's not hard to nest forums inside other forums. I think the idea of having a place for politics b/c I'm sucker for it.

I believe there is a point that you can't edit again. I know some of my older posts i can't edit, but so far anything I entered today I can.

Maybe like a 15 min edit period (to fix spelling, clarify anything you wrote, re-read etc) would be sufficient.

Actually, if there's a setting that only lets you edit for a short time (15 mins, until someone replies, whatever - I'm not familiar with vB administration) then I withdraw my comment. It's mainly from the "pansy" situation above that can really destroy a promising flame war.

I believe LFG has it set at 24 hours and then no more editing.

There is a global setting yes however you can make it so that specific forums cannot edit. Flames are best when shot from the hip including spelling errors, IMO anyway.
