Default Forums, respect, and the world we live in.

Having dredged through posts on various forums recently I seem to see sides of people that might suprise even you.

Wandered through Aion's "Official" forums and saw the same unrespectful dribble that so many other forums seem to pride them selves on. Sure freedom of speech is one thing, but with every freedom comes a drawback.

What you can say and the manner in which is said are effectively two different things. I just sat back after having spent about 30 or so minutes on the Aion forums, while reflecting back on other forums (including Flames) and really felt bad. Bad for the people who felt it necessary to go out of their way to disrespect in the absolute most foul way they could muster, no matter how legit their question/problem.

I had to think, and of course I have no immediate answer but what does this all mean for humanity as a whole. Are these people Doctors or IT Consultants, or are they Framers or Miners? Are they teens or adults? Where does this blatant disregard stem from? Does it make them feel superior, or feel it increases the validity of their point? It all makes you wonder.

I think the only reason this even peaked my interest is as an expectant father I guess the future of the world my son/daughter will be a part of is of interest to me.

Are we supposed to discuss this?

Killque, you must be new on the internets. I bet you are.. aren't you?

I wouldn't suggest being horribly surprised that people use the internet as a shroud to hide behind while venting pent up aggression and frustrations they would never be able to release IRL, if they wanted to succeed.

Take it with a grain of salt. I hate to use the old saying "if you can't take the heat, stay out of the kitchen" but it seems to apply here.

Try to cultivate a better understanding for your surroundings and you'll find that it's not actually that bad. Would you glare at somebody on the subway in a seedy part of New York City? How about somebody at an IGA in small-town America? If you glared at somebody in each situation how do you think their reactions would differ???

Know your surroundings and then make an informed decision on whether you want to be there or not. Pretty simple really.

Also, the word you were looking for at the end is piqued, not peaked.

Um, I think you are miss understanding me. I was meerly pondering the topic having waded waist deep in various "mud slinging posts", some going as far as using coat hangers and unborn children terminology in an attempt to "win the upper hand" on an internet text war.

I am not taking it personally and none of it is directed at me, it was meerly a general obersvation as to the direction some people are taking. Where it leads, why they think its right etc.

Not sure if you want to discuss it or not, but I did feel the need to share my thought on the subject. Why, not sure exactly =)

Yes, this is the internet and I am hardly new at this. I am well aware it is easier to say things in white letters on black backgrounds than over the phone. I remember the days of AOL in the late 80s early 90s when a/s/l and "wanna cyber" was as common as kleenex. I remember it being easier to ask girlfriends questions about over instant messenger than over the phone etc.

This is just the world we live in now, Facebook, Twitter, etc. I was just pondering where it all going to lead I suppose.

Poster1: Hey, does anyone know exactly how to resize my bags, I cannot seem to get them to all fit on my screen.

Responder: Ya, u git yer mom 2 go bak in time and use a coathanger to git rid of yer sorry asszor!!1! Fuckn noob!

This just boggles me. I guess it really shouldnt suprise me. Hell a kid was beaten to death with boards here in Chicago the other day.

I guess it just makes me sad for these people.

I hope it starts with either me or you so I have to endure as little of you as possible.
