VOTE: Should Allowed Time to Edit Posts be Lowered?

After posting in any section of this site, you currently have 24 hours to edit your post. After 24 hours, you can no longer edit your post at all.

Some users have indicated a preference for a shorter time.

I'm only including two options on this poll - keep edit times as they are, or reduce them to one hour - because having a bunch of intermediate choices would make it too difficult to determine whether people want a specific edit time, or just a shortened edit time in general.

If you would rather have an edit time different than either 1 hour and 24 hours, please indicate that in a reply to this post, and explain why. Just keep in mind that whatever edit time is chosen, it will apply equally to all users, in all sections.

This is a three day poll, and the edit time will be changed at the end of this poll if a majority of those voting approve that change.

Lower it. I'd say even as low as 10-15m ... just enough time to correct typos if needed.

btw ... I think you should let the poll run into the workweek, too. Some people might not check the boards on the weekend.

I don't mind either way. If I make a mistake and can't edit my post, I'll just reply to it with corrections/appologies/whatever.

Assuming the one hour edit rule wins, and so far it looks like it will by a landslide, I'll run a second vote and see whether people would rather change it to 15 minutes.

theres a preview post button, no reason to need an edit ..
arks me when people edit their posts that started off a massive debate an i have no idea whats goin on cos some wanka piked out an got scared he was wrong or outnumbered =/

Sometimes you forget to add something and only remember after hitting the submit button. I'd much prefer there was an unerasable "edit" mark with timestamp that occurred each time a post was edited. I think 5-15 minutes is a good time for editing though. Anything you remmeber after that can be put in a new message.

After that thread in AB forum got completely obliterated by edit/deleting page-long posts, I now switch my viewpoint to say that no post that has been followed by a reply should be editable. Too many people will have a means of cover-up for any but the most ridiculously short editing grace period.

Unless I hear major objections, I'm changing the rule tonight so that nobody can edit any post after 15 minutes. That post in the AB forum now is the perfect example justifying a 15 minute rule.

Post edit time has been reduced to 15 minutes. Any edits between 0 and 15 minutes will now show an "edited by" message.

Use page preview if you edit after you write, rather than editing as you may have done in the past.
