I've been spending far more time doing admin related things on this site than I ever expected. I have a real day job, and when I stop goofing off and pretending to work each day, I'm a hardcore raider. Plus, I have a whole fleet of alts and like playing EQ2.
I'm also unable to monitor the boards all day, and live in fear that it's just a matter of time before some jerk posts some really horrible crap in violation of the Site Rules. As it stands now, that type of illegal or extremely harmful garbage could stay up for 8 hours or longer before I might find out about it. In addition, I go on several business trips each year for 3 to 4 days at a time, and just cannot leave things untended for that long.
So I'm having conflicts between what I must do and my discretionary time available for what I like to do. I decided the best way to resolve those conflicts was to hire a helper.
A steady stream of small but generous donations from cool people who use this site has allowed me to hire someone as backup admin for a modest weekly amount. Thank you for that, I'm not asking anyone for donations, but if you want to donate, you can do that here:
Donate.
The job requirements I wrote for the person I wanted to hire basically looked like this:
-Must have an immaculate reputation, be extremely trustworthy, and have credibility beyond reproach within the EQ2 community.
-Must be a genuinely nice and helpful person, and even kind to noobs.
-Must not be biased either toward or against SoE or any of the various anti-SoE factions that post on this site. Since a complete lack of bias is impossible, as close to the center as possible is desired.
-Must like to surf the Net and be able to check this site for nuclear materials and handle admin requests during a good amount of the time I'm working or raiding.
-Must be able to only enforce the spirit of the Site Rules, and must never act as a busybody or moderate content unless I myself would edit or remove that same content.
-Must be willing to do all this for a weekly wage equal to or less than the average pay for one eight hour shift at Burger King.
Well, after realizing that no person using this site qualified for this job, I extended my search. Unfortunately, Mother Teresa was not available. So I chose Calthine instead.
Calthine is a nice, polite person. Please treat her with respect and do not curse at her, I get the feeling she would be more comfortable working in a Sunday School Daycare class than on an unauthorized rants and gossip board.
I'll be giving her rights to grant titles and handle emergencies and such. Please continue to post all such requests and issues in the appropriate place, and everything will be handled within a reasonable time, and we'll all continue having a good time on eq2flames.com.
Thank you for your support.
