Default Anon poster trolls

Is there anything that can be done so that we don't have anon trolls? Like that guy with the posting alias of "Venekor."

I don't know anything about forum restrictions and won't claim to. But is it possible to maybe include a Server name and Character name in someone's personal profile ?

Does anyone else feel this way? I just foresee alot of anon lamers coming out of nowhere to post nerd flamebait all over the boards. I think some prevantative measures could be taken.

Totally agree. Anonymous posters are lame, we should have lfg post their IP info if they continue to be lame, so we can do, whatever with it

Sure, you could ban their ip, or email address..

But then you begin to turn into SOE and that's what this forum was established not to do -- moderate opinions.

There will always be anon retards, and usually their in-game name is found out without much difficulty. Once we have their IP (and trust me, we have it) they won't be able to be anon ever again hehe.

I don't think Pinski was talking about banning IPs

It's what happens over on the FoH boards! So I see it'd be great to happen here.

I agree.

The options are set on this site so you can only ever have one lifetime login associated with a specific email address. You need to enter and validate an email address to post here. The options are also set so that you cannot get two login names on the same computer, even if you could receive email on two different addresses on that comp. There's a work around for that one, but it would be a pain in the ass for anyone to try and use two different logins on this site from the same comp, even if they had two diff email addressses.

Someone with two different comps and two diff email addresses could in fact register two different names on this site, but again, that would be a pain in the ass for them.

I'm able to run a utility that compares IP numbers of all posters to see if any are complete or partial duplicates. Also, I'm pretty intuitive about recognizing a person's writing, especially regarding spelling and grammatical nuances.

If I caught someone posting under two different names, and could prove it was the same person because they were using the same whole or partial IP number in different posts, I'd prolly put up a poll allowing the users of this site to decide which of the two names to ban, and which the user should be allowed to keep. I wouldn't ban a person completely for being a jackass like that, but he would have limited credibility after I busted him, so I'm hopeful that would discourage this sort of thing.

And also, if someone starts posting as an anon retard troll, they are pretty much stuck with that name and rep here, since they can't ever get a new login name unless they register it with a different email address.

I previously considered requiring people to post under a guild and character name, but anyone could lie about those also, and as Niber said, the very purpose of this site is to allow people to post with as few rules as possible.

Also, trust me, I can ban by whole and partial IP addresses, and by complete or partial email addresses, using wildcards and partial characters even if needed. The banning features of vBulletin are pretty robust.
