Yeah, in fact, I think that a one time minimum donation to turn off ads forever is the best way to go. So we can do a one time donation instead of annual subscription fees.

But I honestly think 5 bucks is too low, I'd be more inclined to start with 10. If that turns out to be too much, we can always lower it.

I've always personally been low key about donations, but I guess a lot of people feel differently, and would like the recognition, which is cool with me.

Here's what we can do. You see the field below your name with the 20 referral graphic? I can stack another like that for sponsors, through the user class feature on this site. We could just check a box named "sponsor" in the admin user profile of everyone who donates, and a star, stars, or whatever else we want would appear in the additional title field.

Not a problem. It's a good idea also, and we'll do it. I'll be happy to turn that on for past donators as well, unless someone doesn't want it. That will go in at the same time as our new skin and design, since it's all part of the same thing.

Should we use stars, the word "contributor" or "sponsor", or what?

contributor is pretty standard. thats what they do over on www.tribalwar.com, and have for years. might i add BTW, if the current hosting doesnt cut it after a while, the guy who is hosting tribalwar right now runs a hosting business, and i can talk too him about getting discount hosting for the site just by being a long term member. he has already hooked up many users with their own basic hosting services for exceptionally good deals, im sure having another large gaming site (all though not nearly as large as tribalwar) would be nice for their reputation.

for those of you who have never heard of tribalwar, it is one of the internet's biggest gaming forums, and for a good long time was EASILY topping the X-Box forums on www.bigboards.com in terms of member base < activity, and was bested only by 8 others. it was a leviathan of forums back when it first started, and is still continuing too grow today, on top of taking on a new setup, as more of a gaming/technical news site on the surface, since the game it was originally made for is for the most part dead, and the board probably wouldnt sustain itself on forums alone. and please dont see wiki for info, the TW page has been totally redone so many times its not worth bothering with anymore.

i go by warrlord over there (really old SN), and be warned, that site makes this one look like the telitubbies boards, and they dont prohibit many things this site does, with the exception that you cant directly post porn into a thread (you can link it with a NWS tag)

i already told niber too check it out LFG, you should also. its an amazing example of what a project like yours can turn into. i just wish i had more of my own funds to donate, that server's ram looks a little low, considering my gaming comp has more than that

Excessive... means it's time to find the easiest minimum wage job, milk it for 2 or 3 hours, and then quit. I'm laughing my ass off thinking how that would ever be considered excessive.

I admit it also seemed reasonable to me based on the $2700 I've laid out in the past week for site upgrades.

But we can try a one time $10 "ad tax" to remove ads on a per user basis (waived for Class Leaders) and see if that gets us to the final destination.

Lil update since LFG is out of town. Once the new server is online we're looking at some downtime. Exactly how much downtime? I'm not sure. Hopefully there will be as few hiccups as possible.

As far as other services go, Ventrillo, Counter-Strike, IRC, whatever else you guys want. I think we can accommodate most if not all of that. Let us know what types of things you'd like to see and I'll do my best to add them.

All 3 of those sound nice. People could constantly talk about shit with a community that they have been around forever.

And we will all be on the same server ..in a sense i guess
