why do you need to purchase a 1000 user liscence? Can't you just get a 100-user server from any of the myriad of ventrilo hosting companies around? Granted you wont be hosting it yourself, but atleast its a lot cheaper than buying the liscence.

It's a waste of time to try and contact Flagship, the company that owns Ventrilo. They don't return emails. And I'm not paying money to license slots for software running on someone else's server so I can provide them free to users here, that would be retarded.

You think all these guilds that run ventrilo are paying hosting companies license fees for 1000 people on top of a recurring fee?

If ventrilo wasn't cheap, there wouldn't be so many people using it; That's all I'm saying.

Ya, all I'm suggesting is that the purpose of the tool here on this website is socialization - and there appear to be two alternatives for that. Teamspeak which is free, and Ventrillo which costs money.

I'm asking Niber to explore the cost of buying a 100 user Vent license from a reseller that we can offer to our users here.

But my question is, if you can hear people talk in both Teamspeak and Ventrillo, why is Vent such a big deal for the purposes of this site? Why isn't Teamspeak good enough for how we are going to be using this?

For this application, to be used for the purposes you've outlined, my experience tells me that we'd see little to no difference.

Vent is better, overall, but TS is still voice chat. Either one is configurable via a URL link, and both provide voice communication. *Shrug*

The difference is they're purchasing Ventrilo from an authorized reseller. In order for us to host it we would have to become an authorized reseller -- which is outlined above.

Their is always the option for us to purchase from another provider but that's another monthly fee added onto what we currently pay for hosting.

The big difference is most people have Ventrilo installed. I'd guess very few people would go through the trouble of installing the Teamspeak client just to use EQ2Flames Teamspeak.
