Default Request for feedback on advertising

Our new forum skin and interface will soon be installed. As previously discussed, it will include panels for banner and text advertising.

I've signed up with Adbrite rather than Google, because I object on principle to Google advertising. Adbrite allows me to select the ads that will run in advance, Google does not. I don't want to run plat seller ads, and the best Google filters still allow those to slip through, at least for a time.

We still need to work out the system for people to opt out of the ads by contributing 10 bucks one time, and based on other criteria, and for users and others to be able to purchase ads directly on this site through a paypal link similar to the deal that somethingawful.com has going. But that will be done, please be patient.

The reason I'm posting this is to find out whether anyone objects to particular forms of advertising.

Specifically, some types of advertisers pay 3 to 5 times as much as others, so I'm inclined to go with the highest payers that aren't pr0n.

The highest payers of all are casinos.

Does anyone object if our advertising includes casino and gambling ads?

Thanks for the feedback.

Question. Do members still see ads? Also, if they do, is there a particular threshold on the donation amounts that allows us to view without seeing ads?

10 dollah, one time in life. You already qualify, as do everyone who has ever contributed.

The ads themselves won't be the buzzing kind, but will include interstitials. An interstitial is a particularly annoying type of ad that takes up the page and you have to click once to get around it. The good news is that Interstitials will be set to NEVER hit the same user more than one time per day. So the only inconvenience of advertising I see, to those who don't choose to donate, will be having to click out of one ad per day.

The banners themselves are web optimized and will not lag out page loads. We will have a graphic banner on top, text banners on the side, and another graphic banner on the side for users and others who want to purchase advertising directly from this site for a small fee. All this crap will rotate, so you'll see something different on each page load.

But seriously, the gambling, liquor, and weight loss industries pay the most, and they pay based on impressions and the site still makes money even if you don't click them. The text ads pay on a cost per click basis, so I'm hoping people with excess time on their hands won't mind taking one for the team and clicking those ads to help our site earn money.

Thank you

As long as I don't have to fill out any info, and just clicking and tracking my IP or whatever is enough, I say make an entire page, I'll click once a day on shit that's gonna fund the site.

Well, the advertisers and agency review sites also, so just making one page for all ads and asking people to click them doesn't really work. The ads need to be incorporated within the web site.

We're doing it as a top banner plus on the left side. I think it will be fine. I'll immediately kill any ads that people find too annoying.

I figured y'all wouldn't have any problem with liquor, gambling, and weight loss ads lol, thanks.

Yeah, I didn't think about that. But since I'm a donator, I don't see them anyway, I was just thinking of a way for me to see them and click. Maybe I'll log out or something daily lol

What I wanna do is make it so contributors can opt in or out of ads whenever they want.

It might even take the great Ody to figure out how to do that.
