I tend to lean towards the Burnyai as my charmed pets..

The necro mobs with their pets up can be charmed giving you 2 pets!

What animals are considered mages? I have attempted on SEVERAL different kinds with no luck

I'm a kiter! With Kudzu, points in snare and (yuck!) points in wisdom, the mobs are almost always snared and you're always going to outrun them. Solo spec'd the way the fantastic fury types on guk.fury told me to, I was able to kite both Doom and General V'Deers without too much trouble.

necros with tainted heals have no need for a healer.

But yeah, respeced to charm animal for the grind to 80, got to love it, specially in the jungle and skyfire.
