Umm... cast it as the mob is incoming? There's no way those small hits will pull agro off your tank, lol. It's basically an extra 500 dps (~1000 damage every 2 seconds), so... why not? (unless you don't really have time to)

My crit is well over 100 and yet the spell never hits that high for me. 600-800 maybe and after its all said and done doesn't equal up to an extra 500 dps at all.

And yeah not all tanks are expecting people to have aoe's dancing around waiting for them so most that I have grouped or raided with very well might lose aggro. One could argue that you could start casting a nuke before the mob gets there instead and get an extra over 20k hit instead of wasting time with an aoe.

All in all its an okay spell and in a group its a lot of fun, but its not game-changing or worth much thought. Thats all I was saying.

I have yet to see a tank lose aggro to a precasted ball lightning/sunfire.

Also consider that most raid fights that are suitable to DPS on (i.e. are not heal-intensive) are pulled on the run. There's no time to pre-cast things when you're running to the mob. I should have made that more clear, I guess. And when its a heal-intensive fight, it just seems retarded and probably unhelpful to precast aoes.

But whatever you guys think I don't care enough to argue. Just stated my opinion.

I can cast both Sunrise and Ball Lightning in just over 3 seconds. Cast them both and continue healing, or, cast one, cast heal, cast the other, cast heal....It's easy damage while in heavy healing mode that you don't have to refresh every few seconds, at least on the mobs I'm willing to stand that close to with my current gear.

Ball Lightning and Sunrise pretty much never crit. I think they are stuck at a 1% chance to crit.

casting them in combat is ineffective, most of the time you are better off just nuking one of the regular spells
