Default newbie raid fury question - targeting

Hey guys

While ive played toka for a while I fancied trying a healer as a fun / utility alt to have handy for healer sparse raids. So far Ive found grouping to be different enough from pure dps to be entertaining but im not really all that sure what Im supposed to be doing on raids.

This toon ends up with a bunch of scouts / casters rather than the mt or ma groups and im never quite sure what I should be targeting to improve efficiency.

At the moment I am targeting the MA and keeping a regen thingy up on him while trying to do a bit of dps / debuffing. If someone in my group gets aggro then I hit their 'F' key and heal them till they are better or loose aggro, then go back to the MA.

Im not bothering to be up meleing on the mob, I try to keep the scouts and the casters (at the back, with the cool kids) in group heal range so i seem to be standing 6 or 7 meters away most of the time.

Is it enough for me to keep my group alive, target through the mob and do some dps? or should I be trying to help with whoever I see taking damage whenever I see it? How do you more experianced furies organise your targeting during a vanilla raid encounter?

Soz for the beginner questions - looking for a bit of inspiration

First and foremost keep your own group alive.

As with the MT group...if there is a warden in it you must realize that your HoT will not stack with the warden's so no real reason to be hotting the MT unless no warden is already doing it then feel free. Just talk to the other druids in raid before to make sure whos doing what.

For efficiency in targeting. for your own group and fast switching use the f1-f6 keys...f1 will auto target yourself f2 is 2nd person in group f3 is third and etc.

your secondary job would really be to spot heal, but really depending on the skill of other healers you might not really need to worry about it but you never know. For instance most the other healers in my raid are pretty competent but there are always those same people outside the group that seem to get agro. For me its our illus. Calaglin and Conj. ishbu. there is a command you can use that doesnt actually target the player but you can use an ability without targeting them. Im not at my eq2comp but i believe the macro is /useabilityonplayer Calaglin Greater Bloodflow. This can be formatted to w/e spell/player you want it to be on.

I'd also setup a target hotkey for every tank. Its just as simple /target Morphling. All of the tank target hotkeys i have equiped to buttons on my mouse so any tank is just a thumb click away.

Besides that do as much dps as you can to speed the raid up and your good to go.

Thank you Widem - the hotkeys for our tanks / usual suspects is a good idea, targeting through the raid window can be a bit tricksy after a few hours of raiding

Nifty - too bad my mouse is all the push to talk keys.

I keep a target MT (just change it for raids), /assist MA macro and along with it, an /assist %t - so if I'm healing the tank and a mob peels, I can assist them & offheal through the mob - or, if I target someone to offheal, I hit it and am back to healing the tank through the mob, etc. It may seem like an extra step but, I'm in the habit of using it and it's efficient for me.

Yeah I think you have it right - I have one macro for Feral Potence that I keep forgetting about (whoops!), I had it set up, at one point, for agro pulling squishies.

Someone pointed me to a UI mod that adds clicky heals to the group window the other day, btw, it's out for templars and defilers but needs some tweaking for us (apparantly editing through notepad - I'm dl'ing it atm, so not there yet). (I linked the defiler one).

The click to cure UI does this as well for cures (probably the most time consuming part of group healing, bar casting a group regen) and from what I understand is built into Fetish and Prophet UIs already.

Even though our debuffs suck, don't leave 'em out!

Another very useful key that SOE supplies us with is the target previous target key. I have that bound to me E key and jump between 2 targets pretty often.

My Fury only goes on alliance/PUR so nothing fancy. Macro the MT and MA is extremely helpful. Another very good use of the macro targeting is on life burning necro's.

I make sure they send me a tell first and not just in chat so that I have an audible cue. I have a macro setup up with targeting and spells to make sure they get the maximum burn.

Great idea on Lifeburn. If they're in your group, tossing Feral Potence on them might be a good idea, too, in case of AE or a stray flying chair.

Hehe yeppers - Toka is a necro so the one thing im comfortable dealing with is lb. I get the necro to macro when they start casting it, from that point you have 10s before they drop to 1hp which is just perfect to drop hibernate before stacking regens / direct heals. I tried out the targeting macros suggested here this weekend and it left me more time for watching my group, looking for who the next person to take damage might be. Thanks everyone.

Found an awesome raid window mod for click to heal. All you need to do is modify the names of three heals of your choice and drop it into your UI directory. It's a little on the large side, but I am loving it so far otherwise. You can keep the MT or your lifeburning necro or whoever targeted and clicky heal anyone else in the raid.

ohhh sounds better than the group click to heal UI, I'll have to give it a try. I'd put in the click to cure UI and had tossed the other click to heal out at people who are tech minded to play with, but the click to cure, at least, cleared target.

thx
