There are currently no games that offer what EQ2 did back in the day. the Open world raids, contested content; competitive raids where we waited turns at a raid boss. You hit the nail on the head with everything. I loved this game. Miss it every time I decide to return to gaming. I'm currently playing Tera super casually, it doesn't offer anything like what EQ2 did, though. I have a lot going on in the real world right now, though, life isn't nearly as simple for me now as it was then, so I can't play like i used to.

Giving it another go, for lack of anything better to play.

https://pantheonmmo.com/ There's always the hope of this game being released soon. I know there's a market still for this type of game. i cant be the only gamer bored with the themepark mmorpgs and long for the next big EverQuest type.

Man, I miss raiding. I probably won't have time to do it again until I'm retired in 35 years, but I miss it.

    I play

    Ultra SF 2 on switch

Street Fighter V (actually taking a break, got bored playing birdie and waiting for Sagat or someday E. Honda)

    TW: WH2 (amazing)

    Mario kart with my kids

I wish there was a decent MMO out there, but it seems like the genre is effectively dead

I am waiting for Ashes of Creation.
Don't argue with an idiot, first they'll bring you down to their level, then beat you with experience.

No Frogloks, its dead on arrival.

Guessing EQ2 will be around a few more years, especially since there is nothing to compete with it.

Am I the only one that remembers Vanguard Saga of Heroes in the back of my head like it was yesterday? Despite being 11 years ago, the utter catastrophic failure of that game's complete letdown is still ingrained in my head and really killed my ability to hype an MMO ever again. I was 17 then, I'm 28 now, but I refuse to ever hype or give a damn about the development of a game that's being run by the same man who incompetently led the development of Vanguard (on top of scores of drama such as his meth issues). If not for some random people in niche forums talking about it, I'd probably have not even known Pantheon was a thing (which is a bad thing if the PR is buried under several tons of rocks on a remote island) and from the interviews I seen with Brad, he still seems to be stuck in a time bubble completely oblivious of how the game industry functions claiming he hasn't played many games outside of some mobile game. Oh and by the way, Everquest is a themepark MMO. It is the defacto forefather of themepark MMO's. It was never a sandbox MMO like Anarchy Online, AC2, SWG, or EVE.

Not that I'm hoping that the game crashes and burns, in fact I wish the best of luck and hope it does well, but from past experience I could never put any time, effort, or faith into the hype of a game from a man whos reputation is still tainted with no hard evidence of redemption. In other words I'll believe it when I see it when it comes to Pantheon's release and how well its received. Though because of the MMO genre perpetually being dead, I just don't see it hitting off outside of 1000ish hardcore devotees.

Same. It was different when I was 17-20 when I had my entire life ahead of me, but now that I'm 28 I just can't see myself devoting countless hours into one like I use to. If Everquest is ever to survive, or if DBG is to survive that is, they need to start focusing on making their franchises be included in other genres. Norrath isn't the most unique fantasy world (very ordinary in fact), but you could still make singleplayer games such as RTS's, Moba's, single player RPG's and what not from the given lore and background. Hell even a Dynasty Warriors spin off of Everquest would be cool. Play as Lucan D'lere, Venril Sathsir or Mistmoore killing thousands of orcs, gnolls, or droags would be convincing enough for people to be curious in the franchise.
