Default No more IBTLs?

So I'm cruising the eq2 forums and notice a completely assinine thread that is sure to get locked due to it being a petition against SOE's actions concerning some aspect of the game that I cannot even remember.

I post the obligatory IBTL and get a PM from Echgar stating it's against forum rules now to do that! W-T-F?!

I suppose next up on the ban list are the "Can I have your stuff>" posts...

Man that place is really starting to suck worse and worse...

IBTL has always been against the rules, just like posting just to say LOL. Its gay, but so are most of the rules there.

It's because they want the Official Forums to only be official and respectable, now. I'm really quite shocked that NGD is still allowed to exist (and yes, I'm a carebear NGD'r so shut up already).

I can see their point I suppose, in that they want to stop running a daycare over there. But are they really gaining enough of a following of people that appreciate the changes, that it overrides the people they piss off? Where's the fun?

On Stratics an IBTL is a breech of the RoC because it "Doesn't build community". I'd assume that IBTL falls under the same category since most of the large fan sites share RoC's like drunken girlfriends on prom night.

Regardless.. in the spirit of IBTL...

Man, it does suck over there, when people don't read the rules and start bitching about them! The whole "IBTL" style posts have always been against the rules, it's just that they never enforced half their rules.

I think that they want the forums to be a place for people to go for official info. Period. As I've said a million times before, this makes me sad. I'm a big believer in a MMOG doing what it can to foster a community, and they've all but shut that one down.

IBTL comments can be amusing, but they don't serve any serious purpose. The official forum policy is that replies should add something topical to the thread. IBTL doesn't, and as such must be regulated. Logically if it were an acceptable response then there would be nothing to prevent multiple pages of IBTL comments, which would make the forum pretty damn unreadable.
