Funny thing about advertising...

I always felt that its where you go out looking for the best way to get your site/product/guild/you name it in front of your target audience, not where folks come to you begging to advertise your site for you...

I realize that you are feeling slighted LFG but sadly it looks like you just plain ole got beat to the punch by folks that understand this principle. I am willing to bet that the guilds (one that i used to be a member of btw and if im not mistaken I think there were more guilds then just valor in there) just made either a simple phone call, or composed a 5 sentance email and just asked.. I doubt that they needed some fancy "charm" as you put it get over yourself on that one LFG.

I am more then certain that these folks thought of an opportunity to get their name out there to an even larger audience then this site or whatever, and took advantage of the possibilities. Perhaps it was just plain vanity that made those other folks seek out this magazine and ask if they could place an advertisment on the pages...

Hell LFG looks to me like you missed an opportunity to promote your site and expand your user base which would in turn perhaps create further opportunities for monetary compensation.
But instead of taking it, and making the calls/emails you decide to whine about how come they did not approach you??? That sounds to me like you feel you are entitled to something.
Perhaps you are, perhaps you are not the biggest dog in the fight. Your just the loudest, and i hope that this might just give you a wake up call and make you push yourself to truely expand the possibilties of this site instead of sounding like a whining little spoiled i want it now bitch!!!!

I await your i got a life and make more money then u and im better then you flame shortly. Meh your prolly right but nobody knows nor that what u say is true and i doubt they really care.. All they see is that you got beat to the punch by folks that are probably a little more motivated then you are. just type your /huggles to everyone and go on and call em and setup an add for the next edition, if there is one...

Ive worked in magazine and periodical publishing for 20 years, and its alot more of a hit and miss proposition then you might expect, esp when the publication is just starting up.

often new sales people don't know the demographic very well and some of them just plain aren't very good at their job but it takes time and more then one issue sort that out. I think its a excellent opportunity to promote your site and you should definitely follow up on it.

im actually kinda bummed that LFG didnt do the simple work of asking them. If that mag said no then i could see where he could be very angry and have a valid reason to ask us to not purchase a copy. I would have gladly followed that rally cry. That is a complaint that is worth feeling slighted about not this well i did not know so im mad BS.

This site is hands down the best site out there for those that "know" about it..

"Real" magazines have sales people who solicit advertisements (that's where the sales person contacts the advertiser). They target their market based on the desires of the editor. If there is an ad for Pepsi, you can bet nobody from Pepsi called up SOE and said "we want to advertise in your little known heretofore unpublished mag" Just like Pizza Hut (same corporation) never called SOE and said "why don't you add a /pizza command". SOE solicited Pizza Hut's advertising.

It IS a two way street. Both sides have people whose job it is to get the proper ad into the mag. Ultimately It was the editor's job to know the market and direct the salespeople.

It could be, though, that when they began the mag, eq2flames didn't even have advertising yet, and probably didn't look like a prospect that had the money.

I wouldn't feel too hurt, both LFG and SOE could have done more to get an ad in for this site.

Speculating on whether SOE has a ban on advertising for this site gets you nowhere until someone from one side or the other starts the process.

The PR announcement is below - where does it talk about advertising being available to fansites? It does mention guilds - but I don't believe a reasonable person could have read all this and assumed SoE was accepting advertising for it's new in-house magazine from fansites.

You do raise a valid point, however - I didn't ask and am just surprised they would do it like this. I'm pretty sure the fansite advertising part was a private deal. However, I can't prove that, and am not going to whine about it further. I'll make an official inquiry asking to advertise in the next issue, and will let you know which of us was correct when I receive a response.

LOL!!! OMG the brethren even got an ad in it? That kinda makes sense since they have a branch in just about every game SoE owns. I had the impression from LFG that the whole thing came outta left field.

No start up mags do adverts its just with no established client base so the sales people are running around like headless chickens, trying to get sales and trying to get the ad copy in to the production dept and its very chaotic and easy to overlook leads, also they might not have realized that flames was no longer blacklisted.
