LOL Wow. How long do you think now before we see Iksars running around in game askin people if they want some "sugar"?

I'm tempted to pick it a part a little and tease, but really, to each their own. Some people get off on it - I can imagine if Penthouse letters gets your motor running, interactive Penthouse letters would double your fun. That said, the whole concept of a group par-tay on a publically viewable forum is totally out of my scope of imagination.


I like the idea of Roleplaying on a general basis. It seems like a good exercise for on the fly creative thinking, offering more "immersion" to the game & an element of unpredictability. I'm all for the creativity building stuff. I think, though, there's a much larger realm out there than just getting your rocks off - luckily - or I imagine it'd generate the atmosphere of a cheap motel room & get stale pretty quick.

It seems that the pervy scandal type things just tend to make the rounds more often, given that to the rest of us who don't indulge or quite get it, it's free entertainment. You definitely remember the names of people who MT'd a cyber - and for the rest of us, no offense, it's freakin hilarious when it happens. Like: omg, no wonder the group is dying, our tank and healer are going at it tells. o0


EQ2 Public Service Announcement: Please practice safe cyber!

1. make sure your partner is really the sex you think they are, or that you're too horny to care.
2. make sure your partner doesn't have a spouse who may read over their shoulder and interrupt your session with threats to your manhood.
3. please be sure to cyber in a safe private place. Shut off public access to your room!
4. please check to make sure your tells aren't accidentally addressed to /gu or /r or a random chat channel.
5. 60-69 chat is directed towards people of that level, not suggestive of what you should type there.
6. please make sure you're a dirge or another class that can buff bot on autofollow if you just MUST go at it in a group. Do not indulge if you are the healer, the chanter in Nizera, or the MT. Or the Brigand. Hey those debuffs count. If you're a healer, this is comparable to having sex behind the wheel of a moving vehicle. The people who die while you get your rocks off will not thank you.
7. assume everyone saves their logs and takes screenies. Hey, if they're wanking to text on their screen now, why not save it and wank later? That may come back to haunt you (hump you?) if your toon jilts theirs.
8. You may not want to open that attachment you got in email from your cyber partner. Do you REALLY want to know what they look like when you just banged their redheaded skinny wood elf toon across a freeport wooden counter? I don't think so.

I have a suspicion that some of the content warning stuff relates to an incident in EQ1.

I'm struggling to recall but I'm pretty sure someone wrote a fan fiction story involving the rape of a 14 year old dark elf. SOE over reacted and the whole fiasco ended up with an account ban of the author despite the content not actually appearing on an official web site.

Anyone else remember exactly what happened?

Ah yeah, the writeup of that particular incident is in the book Everquest Companion: The Inside Lore of the Gameworld.

Yes I'm a total geek, I own the book. It ran me .75 + S&H from amazon.com brand new.


The writer was Mystere; he was writing stories on - as you mentioned, Dark Elves. He wrote about the rape of a 14 yr old Elf slave as part of one of his stories on EQVault. A parent complained & Verant panicked and banned him.

The resulting bruhaha over the banning resulted in Smedley eating the donut, so to speak.

If the disclaimer's on the site stem from that incident, it's interesting to note that the book points out that afterwards, Verant adopted a hands-off attitude about fanfic and became much more cautious afterwards about complaints in regards to it (I'm assuming this applies to EQ1, since the forums - including fanfic - seem to be pretty heavily policed).

I'm sure for some it is. But not for all, and it's always been kind of annoying that a lot of people assume that it is.

I've roleplayed a few characters. Before I played on Kithicor, I played on AB, and I continue to have characters there that I RP from time to time. I've written stories for my characters, and nearly all of them have a backstory whether I RP them or not, but that's mostly just to satisfy my need to write.

Yes, some of my roleplay did include adult senarios, it was all part of the fun. But then I also roleplayed my monk as celebate, so it wasn't all about that.

*shrugs* Roleplaying is living out a virtual life of your character. These are Massively Multi-Player Role Playing games, and role playing was the original intention of ALL of these games. In real life, sex and romantic relationships are a part of every day goings on (if your lucky), and I see no reason why people wouldn't want to include that in their RP.

I'm sure that many think it's sick or just a way for people to get their jollies. But I don't find it any more so than fantasy novels that include adult senarios.

I'm actually more baffled by people who play a roleplaying game and DON'T RP at all. Ya all are missing out on a large part of what makes these games so great.

That's no different than disclaimers for other roleplay boards, fanfic, or out and out erotic story forums. That being, "make sure your characters are of age."

I don't know if it's an excuse. I think horniness is the only reason you need.

When I saw power poser, I thought more in the lines of when the Southpark kids were playing ninjas and Cartman kept adding to his powers. So power poser, I think is someone who's character has everything and anything available to him/her and controls the world around them, type of deal.

Being on one of the RP servers and have actually met other RPers from that server, I have only one thing. Don't take the RP cyber seriously, because the person on the other end probably isn't either. One of them told me that someone was trying to cyber her and she was cleaning the house and would look over at the screen every once and a while an type a reply. I thought that was pretty funny.

True RPers can seperate their real lives from their characters lives (or is that just me). I've known some RPers to be complete assholes in game, but are the nicest people IRL.
