Re: Alts REQUESTED to Join a Raid
OH believe me, I understand how that system works, I'm just voicing my opinion of how an actually fair DKP system should work. Even though I hate DKP with a passion.

Re: Alts REQUESTED to Join a Raid
You know what? As a raid leader if I ask someone to specifically bring a character instead of the character they *wanted* to bring, then you better believe I'll let them roll on loot for that character.
On that note, they're rolling for that character that night. We don't run on a DKP system, so we restrict the loot first and foremost to the characters attending the raid.
I've been in numerous guilds in the past with DKP systems, and personally I think the most fair generally attribute DKP to the person and not specific characters. Afterall, it's the person that's amassed all that DKP, investing their time to attend the raids. I can see attributing the DKP to each character if your in some kind of roleplaying guild, but I'm sure most of the raiding guilds aren't.
If your DKP is attributed to the person rather then the character, generally people are a little more willing to drag along a class that's really needed when they wanted to use a main instead.
That's just my two bits, of course there are all sorts of variations on the DKP system.

Re: Alts REQUESTED to Join a Raid
not that its hard to get some decent loot as alt anyway with all the pickup raids going on and stuff...
also when an alt can outbid a main, thats just fucking stupid, take the example of fomka then, we also use sometimes alts when we lack a certain class for contested or something like that, but as pinski said: it has absolute 0 bidding rights as long as a main char bids on it.

Does that mean if your main is a wizard and you have to play your alt healer to kill flame and the wand drops, that you can't bid dkp you earned on your alt for the wand since you had to play your healer for that raid?
DKP from my experience is points earned by a player to be spent on items for there main. Gear going to alts never cost dkp anywhere I have been.

Re: Alts REQUESTED to Join a Raid
If loot for alts isn't going to cost anything its a moot point considering the distinctions and options listed by the OP

Re: Alts REQUESTED to Join a Raid
While we arent hardcore, our rules are pretty simple.
Whatever toon you bring, you must tell the leader who you want to have loot rights with if you were going to bring your other toon. Its assumed that whomever is in the raid is the looting charater, unless otherwise noted prior to zoning in. Most times, this is announced in raid chat so all know if a toon not currently in the raid will have loots rights.
Same if you 2 box. Only one can loot for the night, not both.
It also comes down to integrety as well. Most people that have alts wont roll against a main that really needs the item or has shown an interest to have it in the past.
If you want to loose good people fast, get greedy. Good people have ethics and leave on principle. Bad people leave to get phat l33t l00ts and dont give a fuck about anyone else. I would rather keep the ethical ones, but thats just me and how I lead.

Re: Alts REQUESTED to Join a Raid
We have a hierarchical bid policy.
Mains in raid
Mains out raid
Alts in raid
recruits in raid
Alts out raid - very rare
Bank
I would say if the raid leader asks you to bring your alt, your main should be considered in raid. Added bonus, you as an alt in raid by request should be able to bid above a main out of raid - essentially the guild leader has said you were more important than them to begin with. While all of these loot rules are nice and help keep the peace we usually just talk it out in vent. If I have a 1% upgrade to my main but an alt that is looking at a full tier upgrade and I'm in a good mood I may just let you have it - but it depends situationally. It's one thing to give you an MMIS/EH drop it's another thing to give you an avatar drop. Hope that makes sesne. common sense is our general rule with requested alts getting a slight bonus for switching.
