That laptop battery fiasco was catastrophic.

(Doesn't really have anything to do with EQ2 though...)

Oh but it does, when companies have money issues they usually look to cut whole departments or things that really aren't money makers or useful...

Yeah, but only when they percieve they are having ongoing cost problems and/or want to increase profits. I'm not sure they'll cut anything unless they see it as an ongoing problem, which I don't think they do. The battery recall and the huge hit they're taking in production and development of ps3 seem to be the reason they're in the red, and both of these will go away in due time.

I find it quite funny, how this is condsider something dramatic. They still showed a net profit for the second quarter. it just wasn't as big as last year for the same time period. or as big as they would have wanted.

Amazingly. they knew the PS3 was going to set their net proffits back. it is unfortunate they had to deal with the battery recall. I find it quite astonishing they turned any profit with such a catastrophic development.

As far as SOE, although it is part of Sony. I would be surprised to see anything involving their consumer electronics division effect this portion of the company. Much like when PepsiCo. looses money when they test out blue or clear cola, you don't see a bunch of company owned KFCs or Taco Bells close.

on a slightly related note, over the past summer in pennsylvania, short term sony employees at one of their factories had their jobs terminated early for being ahead of schedule.

granted, these people were only hired to help during a period of major production, but since they were extra-productive and got the job done earlier than expected, they got to go home and be unemployed again earlier than expected. how nice they are to their workers who go the extra mile.

what better way to say thank you than with a pink slip?
