Re: Retail Box vs. Digital Download
I would think the best way to get ROK noticed on release day is to pre-order it through the chains. I don’t think best buy does pre-order, but game stop does. I know from talking to the manager at game stop for a really long time one morning last November while waiting for the Wii shipment to come in, that if they get a lot of pre-orders for something they will assume it is something a lot of people are going to want, order a few more than they had planned, and place it in a visible spot.

Re: Retail Box vs. Digital Download
Sony just announced their RoK pre-order special.
Like someone said, its a digital download and you get a house pet.
Also, the pre-order includes all previous expansions, PLUS all 3 adventure packs.
Which is rather interesting, because that content was the "pull" to buy retail boxes in the past, and now they are including them in the digital download.
Not to mention including the adventure packs as well.

Re: Retail Box vs. Digital Download
I have always done the downloads in the past, but for those that are doing the actual retail pack are they shipped the day it's released so you'll receive your disks 3-5 days after the expansion is launched?
Yeah I live in a small town where it would take a few hours of driving to get to a store that might have it in.

Re: Retail Box vs. Digital Download
I live in a place where it is usually easy to get the retail pack form the local EB or gamestop. They always have them in stock on the release date. However, my buddy made the mistake of pre-ordering the retail version directly form SOE, and they didn't ship it to him until the release date, so he was about 3-4 days behind. He won't do that again. Plus, I did preorder one of the expansions, and that one was in store as well day of release, so I think SOE is the only one that doesn't ship to customers early, just to make sure the mail doesn't get you the game a day early. Like you could play it even if you did get it a day or two early.

Re: Retail Box vs. Digital Download
I can't help but feel that SOE has missed the point of digital download. I personally have 3 accounts. My roommate has one account. That's 4 RoK purchases that my house will be making when the expansion is released, and again, there is no option to purchase *just* RoK for a reduced price... instead, I have to shell out 120$ for all of my accounts to have RoK.
Why can there not be an option to purchase *just* RoK - at a price lower than the full game and all expansions - those of us who have been playing for 2 years and don't need yet another copy of the base game and previous 3 expansions?

I'll let SOE do the marketing for their game.
That they don't give a shit isn't something I can fix.

Re: Retail Box vs. Digital Download
The extra content is just that, extra. You are paying 30 bucks for RoK, not the free content that they added in. They would still charge you 30 if it was just RoK

Re: Retail Box vs. Digital Download
Honestly, though, I own about 4 or more copies of original EQ2. That's ridiculous.
