My first MMO toon was a ranger in eq1. I loved that toon....

Then EQ2 was released.....
I decided to do something different. I decided to play a Necro because of all the cool stuff I saw them do in EQ1. Unfortunately we do not get half of the cool stuff that was available in EQ1.

Do not get me wrong I prefer EQ2 over EQ1 but I definately feel like I have to fit into a specific mold in order to compete with other high-end raiding necros. When I was in an average raiding guild I felt unique because of the way I was speced. I got to play the way I wanted and no one really cared and I was still decent DPS.

But back on topic...
I do love my necro. I just wish I could be more unique and still be able to prodcue high DPS.

I played SK, and was happiest playing that class. others didn't interest me as much. I followed the class, blogged about it, promoted it, tried to convince others to promote it, but SOE just keeps letting the class down. Aside from the changes in my RL that convinced me to move away from the crazy MMOing I was doing, that was what most killed the game for me. SoE should have done more for the class, but always took half steps, or did too little, too late. THey need to realize that when a class needs severe rework, they don't necessarily have to balance every good change with nerfs to the rest, or with huge detriments to playability in some other area.

I gotta say also, my favorite toon has always been my SK, and it's what I made first. It is definitely the most fun to play of all the classes I've ever tried. But I agree, it's a comparatively useless toon except for soloing and grouping. My SK has always been and remains my greatest disappointment with EQ2.

In EQ1 my main was an agnostic High Elf Enchanter and I loved that char. In EQ2 my main is a Dwarven Templar who worships Tunare, and I do like my templar a lot. But my templar can never stack up to my enchanter. As an enchanter in EQ1 I felt like a unique class that brought a lot to the table while grouping or whatever. On my templar I feel like a class easily replaced by any other healer and that a group wants me no more than any other healer in the game. I have some buffs sure, but who doesn't, I can heal, yeah, but so can everyone else.I don't feel any uniqueness within the priest subclass. If you're making a group you need a healer, you might want one over another, but any 70 healer should do the job, we all heal equally. And that's where I think EQ fails. The world was not created equal, and making everyone equally capable of doing everything takes too much away from each class. Also, I noted my chanter was agnostic and a high elf. High elves had more int and cha making them one of the best races for the enchanter class, EQ2 has nothing like that, a dwaven templar and a troll templar are equals. wtf? Why does race have no meaning. I understand they wanted all races to play all classes, that's cool, I guess, if your a noob who doesn't care about lore. Maybe it's just me, but I'd feel better if races had strengths and weaknesses, statistically we're all humans of EQ1, be anything you want.To me SoE made balance mean everyone is as good as everyone else at everything. I think balance among classes should mean that everyone has an equal amount of skills, (be it buffs, heals, tankage, different types of dps, other utility) to the table. When everyone's equal no one feels unique.

Although I think this thread is pretty much just bait, I'll be your huckleberry since Paladins need to represent.

My Paladin fucking PWNs and has been retired from raiding for a long time but dominated that sh!t too. Oi makes top 10 HPs on my server without stepping foot in a raid zone and wearing mostly broker garbage. It's not one thing about the class it's everything. With the proper dose of obsession a well played Paladin is like having a whole damn team in one hotbar.

There are more haters of this class than any I can think of. That's what I dig about it! Always the underdog... but capable of exceeding expectations... what you want a MT?... how about DPS? ...oh need some heals... Paladins got whatcha need and the Paladin player community has stepped it up lately.

(P)aladins (F)ucking (R)ock and have the most active worldwide class channel I've seen. Hell they're crazy enough to make a single class raiding guild and actually obsessed enough to band together and make it work.

yea... I think I dig the EQ2 Paladin even if I'm playing other classes most of the time. I CAN'T play my Pally with just a couple of macros while watching TV. In fact it takes work to play any of my tankers but, finesse to play my Paladin.

I pull out my Pally every 6 months or so with some personal mission to prove some point or another, then play the class until my eyes bleed... mostly to assure myself, at the very least, that some insurmountable thing CAN be done... and I always tend to pull it off with my Pally.

...but I agree with you. I'm bored most of the time when playing any of my other toons or don't have some "fugoff,I'llshowyoumutherfugger!" agenda. Right now I'm feeling burned out because I got nothing to prove and spamming macros on my other toons marginally beats sleeping on my list of stuff to do. /thumbsup

DPS Templar is my latest project but, not nearly as fun as Pally projects.

How's that for "my class > your class" folks?

I got stuck with an assassin, not knowing any better, sure its an ok class, but they are sort of gimp, as classes go.

And I don't feel like spending the time and effort to grind to 70/100 again.

It's the blandness of the game. It's by design. This is what happens when you split classes in two.

The major fuckup they made in the original design was wanting any class within each archetype be able to fulfill the incredibly narrow concept that SOE has for each archetype.

When you design a game based on a combat encounter system of tank + healer + dps + some utility that does not = 24 fuckers, you can't expect players are going to feel that the class they play is all that special.

Ahh lol. I had no idea you were still around. Yeah, I'd say that assassins certainly are gimp....oh wait. That's right.

To answer the question, with 24 options, no class is going to be uber fun. There's no way for a company of devs to balance and make unique 24 different styles of play. Therefore, most are just classes that are the same with differently named spells. You could merge so many classes, its not funny. You could have probably 12 or so, throw in a balanced beastmaster class (not that I want it necessarily, but it would be cool for a new class to be intoduced if they removed the rehashery that is the EQ2 class system.) and have fun. Increase raid sizes to 30, have 12-15 classes, and have REAL raids designed. I think everyone would be happy with that.

My main is a Brigand and I find myself in the debuff department very unique since no other class in the game has such massive defense debuffs as we have them , AR at some point still makes us unique

and yes i really love it to play my brig even with all the flaws (deagro issues, horrible AA tree) but im still missing something
crippling mobs is what a lot of classes can just not as good as us
Pick pocket let me feel a little like a real Rouge but id love to see more of this , more abilities that let u be more like thief and content where u can have an advantage , not sure if u know the game Thief
but thats just awesome what the guy can do there I wish my class could do such things in EQ2 aswell spying distracting
the reason why i like raiding more than anything else is that group and quest content in this game completley sucks
it would be awesome if we could have a small advantage sneaking up somewhere hitting a swtich and a ur group got a new path where they can progress or avoid traps but then its the rouge only who can do those things while u sing tools that let him undetected move around but should require skill to use those
I see Rouges as the feudal age James Bond especially the Brigand
Swashs are rather Captain Jack Sparrow

back to the group quest content there is absolutley no way to interact with the inveroment apart from hitting a switch and a door opens i hoped for more interactivity in the game when they brought us Splitpaw even if it just was blowing up walls
but mostly u just stand there cycling thru ur CAs and watching a text window seeing ur auto attack hit and spam CAs again
