Using your example of the Rectum Poker. If being a Rectum Poker means you poke rectums the same as everyone else, then surely you loose your sense of idenity and with it goes a lot of the enjoyment. That said, i'm sure some people as posted above might gain a lot more passion for their class if it was to be renamed to Rectum Poker.

I'm sure Brigands even get a mid-level attack called Bum Rush...

Either way, this was never about a name (although to some it is). It's more about if you are able to gain an attachment to and a passion for you're class.

rectum?!

I damn near killed 'em!

and I'm so attached/empassioned by my Paladin, I can't seem to level any of my alts with any motivation at all. He gives me a little bit of everything AND the ability to tank all of the zones I am geared to tank with finesse and relative ease, while keeping myself near (or at) the top of the parses.

Then your true dps classes are useless slackers and i seriously doubt your raid dps exceeds 20K.

I've never been a fan of DPS classes in other MMOs, but the Warlock class has really won me over. Other than getting AAs/spell order/CA timing down, there's not a whole lot of skill required to be really good at this game. Warlocks are different because they are the red headed stepchild of aggro management, which is really the only frontier in EQ2 not parsed into oblivion.

It's far more exciting than any other class I've played. To truly keep up with other DPS classes I have to whip out the AEs, but since I have very little in the way on hate management I'm always tip-toeing the line between topping the parse and dropping like a wet paper towel. The excitement of not knowing whether I'm going to cross that line is only bettered by wonderment when I do find the rare tank that allows me to bloom.

A warlock is like a flower; beautiful when its petals blossoms, but terribly fragile to a touch.

And now that I've got some decent gear, tanking as a warlock is a hoot. It's awesome surprising people.

New to the game, played eq1, and love the changes of eq2,
played a paladin before, tried many others, just really liked the all around of a paladin,

What I find most fun and passionate about my Paladin, is you will hear in many cases people think Paladins suck, or they arent worth crap cause they are horrible at everything.
THen you have the ones that say if youplay it right, you can out do most other classes.

So my passion came from creating a Paladin that would stifle the negatives and have people say "hey, I'd group with you anyday", and so far, so good. Except for when i tank, I am not quick enough because i don't have an awessome computer, so i lag in dungeons and busy places, but otherwise i can off tank extremely well. I have been invited to two groups in ROv, just for my off tanking abilities, and able to pick up where a healer needs it, and so on, you get it.
Passion for a class i think boils down for passion for a cause. This could have been for anything, but i think you can see by all these posts, passion boils down to how much you care for the game. I love it, i love my paly, and i started a few more on this, but I just ahve to go back to my paly, .

I'm actually a very decent swash for what i have to work with. People on my server will attest to that. I work hard to know my class as best as i can! But i can identify with the look, style, and overall feel of my character instead of ONLY seeing them as a debuffing dps machine. SOE has done a brilliant job with swashy's from the ground up - looks, style, good dps, and a fun role.
Tiggin, who is one of the FEW excellent female players left on our server, is awesome. Who gives a flying fuck if she wants to look pretty AND play well at the same time, thats what they gave us an appearence tab for.

----------------------------------

As for having a passion for my class(es), I absolutely love every class that I play.
For those who don't know...I have several toons, two level 70s working on a third. I love to tank. Tanking has been my forte since EQ1 Kunark launch. I played a Warrior, I loved a Warrior, I lived, breathed, and ate raid tanking. After moving on to EQ2 I played a troubador, a shadowknight, and everything in between.
Since I've only got the two 70's, I'll speak only on details of those two.
This is an MMO RPG. I absolutely get into the way my characters look. (Sue me, I'm a woman). If my Shadowknight looked like a fucking squishy caster, I'd hate it. (No offense to squishy casters, I play a wizzy too!)
Coming from my roots of tanking, I absolutely adore the SK in groups. I love raid tanking, its my place in the life of an EQ player. Unfortunately for me, it seems I chose the wrong class I feel like us SKs need a little more in the Love from SoE department, but it's kind of what makes the class, the struggle to prove yourself constantly, that you CAN be not only a good tank but a GREAT tank. Who wouldn't love to play a valorous knight gone bad?

Most recently, I've been playing an Assassin. I was reading about how Assassin's are gimpy and etc in this particular thread, and I completely disagree. I love to see my name up there on the parse in raids. Maybe its a sense of self accomplishment knowing that I'm a good enough playing to be first and second on the parse nearly every time (sometimes third hehe). Other than being up on the parse, I like the concept of an Assassin. Basically...I'm a ninja...that is all :D
Assassin's sneak around in the shadows, and strike when it's least expeceted.

I don't really think classes are missing all that much. Sure there could be more customizability and such....but really, at the end of the day it's what the game is missing. Back when EQ2 first came out theres was a lot more stress on classes, I think anyway. We had the island where everyone started, all in one place. You could really see the conflict between the two cities. You had to chose your class as you went along, go through all the trials and tribulations of becoming the class you chose. I wish they hadn't that taken that out. The game is missing a lot that could make a lot of things a lot more important.
Screw spell/class consolidation, theres really no reason for that.

In short, I love the classes I play, and I woulnd't reroll if ya paid me (okay maybe the tank...but I'd never get rid of Nephtys)

I get the same feeling as a fury sometimes. I'm geared and mastered to the point where it's very hard to control agro in public groups without turning off Infusion, taking off all my proc gear, and completely avoiding DPS--we just don't have any kind of effective agro management since SOE fucked over our 10% dehate in the WIS line, which no raiding fury is going to spec anyway. It's actually kind of fun telling a PUG tank up-front, "look, I'm going to pull agro a lot, don't worry about fighting to pull it off of me if you don't want to. I can take the hits, the mobs will die twice as fast with me DPSing, and if I die before the mob burns down it's my own damn fault."

Fortunately, the mob usually burns down before I do. And when it doesn't, it really is my own damn fault.

I will chime in myself and say that of the 3 classes I have played for any length (paladin, troubador, inquis) that Paladin is hands down my favorite. They are wildly underrated in raid situations, are pretty much bar none the best heroic tanks out there, imo, and can solo quite well.

As a matter of fact I would say paladins are pretty much the most awesome class out there. Most high end guilds carry 3 fighters, and imo, those fighters should be guardian, paladin, and other. Paladins are the best OT in the game, and can fill the MT role in a pinch if need be (although gaurdians are the first choice for raid tanking, as it should be)

Paladins are one of the hardest tanks to master (no, amends doesn't always solve all of our problems) and by far one of the easiest to look like a total tool on, which I think is why we get a bad rap. So yeah.... paladin is the class that is always going to be nearest and dearest to my heart
