Default Did anyone else like how crafting was when the game first came out?

I remember getting my first crafter into its 30's and it was such a fucking process! Interdepency was a great idea in my opinion. They made it very difficult to level(other than botting alchemists), which made it feel like you accomplished something. Back then I had high hopes that crafters would make items useful to the raiding game. Then the only thing decent thing crafters did was those mediocre "secrets of the" books. I was hoping for things like Uber mob 1 would drop stone of the uberness which could be combined with stone of the ultra uberness from uber mob 2 to make a nice item. Crafters were also so rare back then. If someone had a lvl 50 armorer back then it was a big deal. You also met more people - like if I needed materials I would have to go find someone to make them for me...at the time I was one of the few crafters that high of a level so you would make deals with the other high level crafters.

Anyway,

Anyone else think interdepency was actually a good idea? Or miss the way it used to be for crafters back then?

Yes i prefer the old way where one had to network to get items made. I was 2nd 50 smith, had a pocket alchemist and made about 25-30g off Ebon weaps. Cant remember the last time i made a weapon for someone 8 (

I miss the community and the challenge. The challange was in networking, planning and storage. Further, I really don't like the accellerated XP. While it was very nice of then to remove some of the horrible grind, I think they overshot the mark. Used to be hitting a level was an accomplishment that required extreme dedication. Now any one can do it.

SoE doesn't seem to believe in happy mediums. Somewhere between horribly time-intensive and far too easy there had to be middle ground.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

I enjoyed the old system as well, my main is a provisioner, so no interdependacy.

I didn't like how redundant some of it was. I don't see why I have to go back and make T1 crap to finish my T5 or above.

However, with the way they trivialized it, I can't make any decent money off of it so I stopped doing it. The market is flooded with products and not enough demand for them.

Concept yes. Execution? no. If we are talking right at launch, I didn't like the harvesting, didnt like that the entire system was a horrid grind that required people to grind on subs for everyone to advance, thought the initial execution of shop tasks was very bad for the economy(but good for my wallet) and found it funny that just about everyone I knew that crafted had a pocket Alchemist.

As compared to now? I much prefer the new system and like the xp changes. It's not that I want easy mode crafting or anything but, in absence of compelling content, I don't really find the process of crafting interesting at all- especially compared to adventuring.

I've got 9 crafters all post 65 now and leveled my woodworker under every incarnation of crafting in this game and find no substantial difference in feelings of accomplishment between any.Oh yeah! I leveled! More grinding in the same dungeon staring at the same wall!As far as the grind itself goes, it's probably about the same as adventuring-if you do your own harvesting as a level 70 adventurer.

Were there real content to crafting my opinions might be different but, since there isnt and really has never been, one clicky grind hell is about as good as any other.

The main problem with interdependencies is that alchy's made out like bandits. EVERYONE needed WORTS, and they were the only ones that made them. So you either had to level your own alchy to make them for you, or make friends and lose money buying from a diff alchy.

i don't miss tradeskilling from the beginning... i miss the system after they brough about the cross-class skills. where i could make everything for myself, but it took more than one step to make things.

i've never been a rich player, and it used to be relatively cheap to earn xp, it just took time and a little organization. now, it just costs me a few plat worth of fuel to level... and the rate at which it burns my raw materials, it's just annoying and completely un-fun.

even though it used to take longer, my resources went a lot further, and i enjoyed it a lot more. the items used to be more powerful too... especially for us weaponsmiths.

My favorite was having to bribe Weaponsmiths for hilts. They were the only ones who made them and they hated to make 'em. I'd usually wave a stack of pristine staves at them.
