From a wizard perspective...
FoI is crap.
The spell haste portion of this buff will allow me to cast 1 more spell in that 24 second period than I would have been able to, that will have to be sunstrike, because that is often the only spell i have left up without this buff. That means i get ~1.5k damage extra from the spell haste.
As for the crit, 1% gives a wizard about 0.38% increase in their DPS. So to get 5% (an increase of 1.9% DPS) for 24 seconds will increase the DPS of a wizard (assuming 3k zonewide) for that period by 57 DPS (1368 damage total for the 24 second duration).
The melee portion of this buff will increase my DPS by about 0.3
This gives me an expected increase in damage output of about 2850 each time I cast this ability, which i can do every 5 minutes. This works out to be an average increase to my zonewide of 9.5 DPS.
People are seriously considering rerolling their character over 9.5 DPS? Or am i missing something?

No change should be instituted three years into the game that so clearly unbalances things that people would be forced to question fundamental character decisions which we were told would have no bearing. I remember the conversations with the names in red back in the beginning. They said what difference will an extra 4 points in strength mean when you get to level 50? Go ahead, roll the race/class combo you want, your choice will have no bearing on how well you can fill that roll. Well clearly it now does, and that is why we are pissed. Somebody starting the game has a distinct advantage of being able to optimize that people who have been playing and PAYING for 3 years do not have unless they are willing to scrap 3 years of time and effort.
That is an unacceptable choice to be pushed into making.

Ok...so I make a suggestion that goes directly in line with the OP's main topic and you decide to flame me about something else completely? C'mon and grow up. It's not like I caused the changes, I just wasn't naive enough to expect your chosen race to have no bearing on your character's future. Just because you posted in the newbie yard about what the best race for your class was and you were told that race doesn't matter doesn't mean SoE ever advertised that race would never matter. Race mattered quite a bit at release, but then shortly after DoF they stopped mattering, guess what! Now they matter again.
My characters include a Dwarf Brigand (70), a Human Inquisitor (70), a Troll Ranger, and a Troll Defiler. Hardly the optimal class combinations. That doesn't mean I'm gonna whine about my race/class combination. I think the changes are a great addition and it's about time some distinction was made. One of the main selling points for a lot of players was in the physical difference between races, it only makes sense that the physical difference would lead to something else.
Now that all being said and out of my system....Erudite SK? what ya think?

It's funny, as a Fury I spent 25 AA's to get 45% in-combat runspeed and it generated about a bazillion threads about how in-combat runspeed was overpowered. The Dev's nerfed all in-combat runspeed except racial traits, now they give a freebie 50% in-combat runspeed that requires ZERO AA's and it's somehow not overpowered? WTF?!?!?!
OK, that wasn't enough, I had Pact of the Cheetah, which gave me a temporary 56% in-combat runspeed buff, it's a level 39 spell, enhancable via AA's, yet it was so overpowered in PvP they DISABLED THE SPELL ENTIRELY. So yeah, I'm hella pissed that they just screwed me over in favor of a kerran/sarnak ... all this talk of dark elves being overpowerd, F that, gimme my fugging in-combat runspeed back and eliminate all this racial runspeed stuff, it's OVERPOWERED IN PVP.
I came to play PvP, not to play EverRUNAWAY!

Their in combat run speed isn't going to work when engaged in PvP you retard

and the buffed ability gives like Alania wrote already at least 100 dps on a ZW
get on your feet you fucking faggot and just think for 2 seconds, maybe you realize then that you are a complete moron

You really are a fucking asshole. Race stopped mattering before you left the beach in the original Isle of Refuge on launch day, shithead.

Re: Best race for each class?
Flesch, to my recollection a lot of people were unhappy with the game at launch and for many months after and I personally know many people that actually QUIT the fucking game because they did not enjoy it. SO why the fuck would SOE now want to revert to the 'old days' when that in fact is what made people quit in the first place?
The player base now far exceeds what it used to be, because people were happy with the changes made from original launch, lets not revert back to the same game people left for.

Compare that to an ability that can be used every 3 minutes and does about 300 damage. That might add 15dps (and that's being exceedingly generous) over a 2 hour zone. Does that sound balanced to you? Try to think without a dick in your mouth for like 5 seconds ok?
|
you are kidding right? i don't think you are looking at the same spell if you think it is going to add 100 DPS to a zonewide.
here it is in it's current form according to screenshot below:
instant cast
24s dur
reuse 5 mins
5% melee and spell crits
10% casting haste
35 melee haste
-34 parry
-38 defense
first of all you say it would be up a "good" 12 minutes for a 2 hour zone which is incorrect. assuming the recast starts when it is cast not when it expires then you could have it up 8% of the time or 9.6 minutes chain casting it. second of all 100 DPS is INSANE, if you chain casted it and never had it up when not fighting it would need to add 1250 DPS while it was up to give you 100 DPS on your zonewide.
since i play a necro here is what it would be for a necromancer and i think it would be at least comparable for other mages:
5% spell crits = ~40 DPS
so even if the 10% spell haste and the mellee buffs add 100 DPS it would add 140 DPS while it is up or 11.2 DPS to your zonewide.
i don't mind people saying it should be nerfed (i haven't really looked at other races abilities that closely myself so i don't know if it should or not) but at least don't pull blatantly made up numbers out of your ass when calling for a nerf.
EDIT: changed numbers for the updated screenshot below that shows no +spell damage.

Re: Best race for each class?
The funniest thing about this whole post....this whole day in fact, is that this is really all about Fury of Innoruk and that the information you are using is outdated.
