Re: RoK instances
Shared dungeons usually > instances. Better xp, more potential named, FAR more quests. Only downside is the loot is usually not as good.
But I'd bet a lot of people would join me in being angry if KC was instanced, considering it is likely the most well-known zone for trains in any MMO, and everything about eq2 should maintain nostalgic appeal imo

whats wrong with leapfrogging? Just means i get to where I am going faster.
and camping? well now! thats only a problem when you need a quest spawn and their are plenty of ways to fix that, the laziest of which is instancing.

if you would just engage everything no one could take your mobs.
i seriously dont understand the whole instanced philosophy. isnt that just like playing by yourself? there are plenty of RPGs to play by yourself where you dont have to have any contact with anybody.

On the one hand a instanced dungeon really gives you that feeling of immersion. You know that you and your group can go through at whatever pace that suits you and you know that everything you need will be there for you. You can explore and take in all the sights and sounds. It's really very cool, the first 2 or 3 times. The problem is when mobs are dropping set pieces because now you have to go back 8 million time to get everyone their set piece. Smart Loot helped but grinding out the same instance over and over is a quick way to kill that "immersion". So it has more pluses than minuses in my opinion, I would rather instanced dungeons as well though simply because it is the most efficient use of my time grouping in game. I feel like I'm getting what I paid for.
Despite sitting here and really trying to think of positives for shared dungeons, I can't think of a single one. They are excellent for building animosity amongst the player base. "Zomg you stole my ring event! Oh noes I'm grrrr angry about a video game!" Seriously, I'm under enough stress at work and I don't play the game to be stressed out by douchebags. You get people trying to train other people, stealing camps. Asking for a camp check, getting no response and after fighting your way to the camp there's like 4 groups waiting in there. It's just that they are an EPIC waste of time and completely inefficient. Not to mention you are constantly frantic in there and no matter how cool the zone looks you won't really get to take the detail in because you'll be too busy trying to beat some people to a spawn or whatever. You know I hadn't been in SoS in a good long while prior to the expansion and I went in there to goof off and for the first time ever I noticed details I had never seen before. Simply because going in there was always "ZOMG CLAYMORE RUN!!! ZOMG HERE GO!!! NAMED!!!! AAAAHHHH" I realized it wasn't the zone I actually hated, because it's actually kinda cool looking. It was how much time it was required to be spent in there while accomplishing almost NOTHING.
As this point it doesn't look like it will matter. It appears that the zones are designed such that if you want progression you're gonna have to camp along with everyone else. If it were too easy then you could blast through progression and be done with the content and cancel your account since a good amount of the players are not interested in end game raiding. They need a way to hang on to that subscription fee. Still I wonder how many people have just quit due to frustration. I know I've been tempted to do so in the past but SOE banks on the fact that I'm a stubborn bastard.

Re: RoK instances
Good thing most quest named now drop no loot OR have a ph which also updates your quest and is on a fast repop (10-15min or so) timer.
(barring some exceptions which need to get feedbacked such as the undead jailor in KC)
Shared dugeons are more fun mmc and cmm are infintely better then cov or oob. Becuase as you said instances get boring FAST.
and actually there are like 20 lvl 70 instances in game already not the least of which is shard of fear. Shard of fear is you saved the quests give over 50% of a level just by gettign kill disco and quest updates. They really did not need to add anymore lvl 70 instances. Lvl 75-80 should be the bulk of dungeon content.
