I don't think it did. Even if the game stays 80 forever people are going to stop doing old expansion's content because it gets fucking boring. Especially with them moving to a year between expansions. Even if the next expansion retains level 80 I seriously doubt most guilds will be farming RoK after its released.
This isn't EQ1.
I have no problem with them increasing the level every expansion as long as they add a lot of raid content like they did with RoK. Old shit is old. In three years even if the cap is still 80 fuck if I'm going to go back and raid RoK. One year of farming content is enough.
In CL we quit doing instances and shit awhile ago. All we were doing was TTR and contested. We didn't even step foot into EH, MMIS or FTH at all, not to mention CWM. Why? Because it was fucking boring and no one needed any loot from those instances.
Would that suddenly change if RoK was lvl 70 instead of 80? Fuck no. With new content out there we especially wouldn't want to go farm EoF boring ass shit.

Unless it releases after January 16th, 2009 this statement is false. I imagine it will come out sometime in 2008.
Also WoW doesn't refrain from launching expansions because of fear of raising the cap too fast, its because Blizzard is always slow as fuck to release anything and always have been. Even if they released expansions every six months they'd still be upping the cap.
You said EQ2 going to 60 in DoF and 70 in KoS "fucked up the game" but WoW is doing the same goddamn thing.
Newer games are designed to expand upward instead of outward.
