Default The Woe's of Release Day

So...I don't know if anyone else has this problem, but I don't have money on my CC at the moment (moving kind of skimped my funds for a bit) so I've been expecting to head out to the local game shop and pick up a box copy.
Like an idiot, I forgot to preorder, and didn't have time within the last few days.
So this morning (around 11:30 AM mountain time) I head out to the local Best Buy in hopes of grabbing up two shiny copies of EverCrack II: Rise of Kunark.....but what do my wondering eyes behold? Not a SINGLE copy of any EverQuest on the shelf...not even a price tag labeling where it might have been. So, I head to the WalMart next door with the same result. So I ask the nearest sales associate who rudely answers, "We haven't gotten any of that in yet." Okay, so now I'm starting to panic a bit. Where the hell am I going to get this? I've just moved here and I dunno where theres a GameStop. So I walk out of the WalMart and what do I see across the parking lot? A GameStop!!!! So I rush in and say, "I need two copies of Rise of Kunark" and the nice man behind the counter says, "Sorry, I've only got one left."
Shit.
Shit shit shit.
So I pay for the one copy, and ask them to call around and see if any other GameStops in the area have any left. After he's called about 5 stores he finally finds one with ONE copy left. Thank you jebus....unfortunately its about 30 minutes away.
So, have the lady on the phone hold the copy for me, and drive 30 minutes down the freeway to get the expansion...and then drive the 45 minutes home.
My patcher is FINALLY down to 10 minutes....but I have a feeling I won't be able to get into the game once I'm done patching >_<

Anyway, anyone else had to run all over god's creation to find these things? What are they, Gold?

I ordered it online and didn't have to drive anywhere. Though I will be getting a boxed copy when it's released in stores on the 16th.

i had to do that shit for EoF when it came out. except i actualy pre ordered it and still got screwed. drove around for probably 2 hours trying to find one, and finaly found the last copy at a game stop. by the time i got home, got it installed and patched, i was like 3 or 4 hours late to the expansion lol. so this time i just went for the digital.

the problem is stores dont order a whole lot of them, and youd be surprised how many people play eq2 even if u live in a small town.

Closest Gamestop by my house didn't have any in stock. Next closest had only 1 copy for the whole store, which they held for me :D

At least the Gamestops and stores in your area stock at least one copy.

The WoW fanboyism around here is so rampant and unflinching in it's domination of every store in sight that I haven't seen a copy of any EQ/2 in a year. They do usually have at least five rows of WoW though.

A guildmate went into a store yesterday, only to be told that they had 0 preorders, and that they wouldn't even be getting a shipment of the game at all.

SOE - I honestly do not understand this. Is this game not worthy of promoting at all? Aren't you guys proud of your product? If not, why the fuck should we be?

I think as has been posted before, the problem is not that they dont want to promote the game but Blizzard has such a monopoly of the market that they ask for exclusivity when they do their marketing deals. I have never read a bad review of EQ2 but try and purchase it here in the UK and you are struggling.
