This sounds crazy, buuuut;

I've always wondered if SoE has ever thought about hosting Torrents of these beastly x-packs and letting the torrenting community-at-large utilize shared distribution to spread out the server loads...

Hash data makes torrents secure, and for people that choose to use them, makes larger downloads INSANELY fast when servers are under loads like this. Further, it's an incrementally increasing download speed as more and more people have packets to seed. Basically: either let the patcher download files, OR, click the .torrent download, download a small file from SOE server, and let your torrent client handle the rest.

Any dev comment on this? Or anyone think of a reason this COULDN'T be done? (or atleast made it an option in addition to the patcher).
Anywho: will be downloading when I get the go-ahead from my ATM...

They do use a torrent system, it's fast, but not incredibly fast, still beats DLing on xpac day from SoE.

Petgroup

Spending an hour or less on this and causing 1,000's of Everquest 2 subscribers to be happy and download fast is not a viable option for SoE.

I always got 1-2MBytes/s from the patch servers. Also, fuck WoW's torrent shit, and fuck torrents in general. I don't want to waste my upstream on some queer I don't know.
