Re: Ok, huh? (Patching twice?)
Anyone else afflicted by this nonsense ever figure out a permanent workaround?
I've tried everything from a full reinstall to using my neighbor's internet. I can get the game to run but it crashes a lot, missing a hotfix I assume. And since Vanguard doesn't have a direct exe to use, it just wont run due to sharing the same busted patcher.
So, anyone have better luck than I in solving this?

Re: Ok, huh? (Patching twice?)
Check your eq2 install directory, delete all except 5 things: Pak folder, Music folder, eq2.exe, everquest2.exe, and Legends of Norrath folder (Those are the larger folders/etc)
eq2.exe will re-run the patcher; shouldn't be too long. See how it is (log in, out, re-run patcher, see if still does the stupid full patch you got there.
Have any other programs running in startup? (Specifically Antivirus/Antispyware or other program monitoring utilities). Just for testing, completely remove everything from startup anyway, for the short-term.
Disk nearly full, or in need of a defrag?
All I can think of for starters man, I'll forgo specific details on how to do much of the above; let me know if you need instructions.

Wait, WAHT?!

Same exact thing happened to me. The problem happened after I ran eq2maps following a full patch of my retail store copy of EQ2. Fortunately, this only happened once.

So ummm, did I just pick the right day to come home from the family reunion and have a couple extra days off to finally get to 80, and today is like the un-ending patch day or what?
God it pisses me off to have a day off and no hubby aggro around and find the servers down. =/

Re: Ok, huh? (Patching twice?)
Oh joy >_<
So, today was the first patch since RoK, which means I can no longer skip the idiocy of perpetual patching by running the EverQuest2.exe file and skipping the patcher entirely - because my version no longer matches.
So, I just spent 6 hours patching, and it finally lets me in the game. All of my settings have been set to the defaults, and I can't log into my characters because apparently the patcher deleted darklight woods - I click the 'shutdown everquest 2 and run the patcher to install darklight woods' button, and get an error. So I guess that character is no longer playable until I figure out what the hell sony did to my files in RoK that messed everything up so badly.
I've tried absolutely everything I can think of short of reinstalling the game entirely - so I guess I'm off to do that now.
Not even my character ini's with ui settings survived the patcher.
edit: so just for kicks I decide to run EverQuest2.exe after patching, and it says the version is mismatched again. So I run the patcher, and lo and behold I've got another EIGHT HOURS to go.

I signed up for World of Warcraft and in under 3 minutes, I was playing the game. They have the option of downloading all the files as you play. I was shocked how fast the process was.
Everquest 2 fails again.

Re: Ok, huh? (Patching twice?)
I'm a bit baffled atm.
I found the problem, but I have absolutely no idea how it is even remotely possible, nor how to fix it - or if I even want to fix it for fear of it breaking in some other way.
So after letting it patch overnight for the umpteenth time I get on today to find that my C drive is full - 0 bytes remaining. Unable to concieve how this can be possible considering I had nearly 30gb free a few weeks ago and had installed nothing to C:\ since then, I begin searching everywhere with the growing suspician that this is where my missing patch files are going.
C:\Documents and Settings\Eru\ is now where the entirety of my Everquest2 and Vanguard installations reside. The launcher paths on my desktop, from which both of these mysteriously relocated clients are run, still point to H:/Vanguard and E:/Everquest II respectively, yet the patcher has decided it now lives on my OS partition for reasons I cannot at this time fathom.
Mind you all of this happened the day RoK released. I had been playing both games almost daily for some time without incident until I downloaded the expansion.
Since the root for both installations is the same folder, the identical folder names contain s files for both games, many of which go by the same name. This explains the fact that I had to repatch both games over and over, as when I'd go to play the latter, the files had been replaced by the former's naughty counterparts.
This explains everything - even though I have no explanation for how it could have ended up this way. Just thought I'd share the eventualities of the saga.

Re: Ok, huh? (Patching twice?)
No matter what you do, Sony still installs the client patcher files onto the C: drive even if you put the DVD in and say install it on the H: drive.
I believe you can change this by editing the registry after the fact but I can't find the EQ2 forums post from the guy who did it.
