Hell I wouldn't let my job call me at 4am for anything, never mind some fuckwit playing EQ2. Although a part of me is curious as to how my gf would react to being woken up because I have to go kill a mob in a game.

If you have not mastered how to slip out of bed without a woman noticing you have my deepest sympathy.

There I clicked quote, quit fucking crying muffin. You need a hug?
If you have mastered the art of slipping out of the bed without a woman noticing, maybe you need to pick up your game, and get a better class of tail lol.
For the record, I dont think I said I get a ton of tail, Im fucking married son, high school kids get more ass than I do, I was just pointing out there are much funner thngs to do on a Saturday night than sit around listening to some asshole scream about his l33t sauce.

I guess its just a matter of personal preference in the end. I presonally like to raid, but just because I have like 75%-80% of my gear as fabled (its all fabled trash btw, nothing anyone would consider uber by any means), doesnt make me any better than the dude standing to my right wearing all Legendary. We both had to run a stupid instance 300 times to get our drop. Well not me, I lucked into most of my shit, but the point is still there.
I was just sort of shocked I suppose, because when I finally got to the end game mobs of EoF, I found they didnt even look uber. Mayong is a standard vampire model, nothing great. No walls of mist, or exploding into a ball of bats, no crazy spider climbing up a wall, or anything. Just another regular mob, wrapped in a ball of green light, swinging a not so awesome looking sword.
I sat there filming it and thinking, "so we wait for the green ball to drop, spam dps, pause when the green ball repops, wait for it to drop, spam dps. O and dont forget to keep your back pointed to the wall. That is all, inc dead mob."
This makes you better than me? This gives you the right to talk shit and belittle people? You traded your entire real life social life for this?
My homeboy asking that question as I sat there editing just drove the point home for me. There is no point, its all for bragging rights, and unless your in the top guild on your server, what is there to brag about? "yay Im number 2!" who fucking cares? To be #1, you gotta get up at 4am, leave school/work early, and basicly drop what your doing whenever that uber mob spawns, so you can be 1st to get it, and cockblock anyone else from getting it.
FUCK THAT SHIT LOL. Thanks for driving home what I assumed to be correct when I made the post. There is no point, its just bragging rights, and the only people who care about those bragging rights, are the people who play on that level of l33tness.
I decided a few weeks ago to post a LFGuild thread, because I like to make movies, and what I got, time and again in private messages and emails, was "Fuck off, if you dont want to be uber, and raid full time, we dont want you." I was simply amazed at the lack of respect anyone had for anyone or anything. A simple "No thanks" would have been all that was required, but the ego of the uber raider had to be set free to beat up the non uber with its awesomeness! The whole attitude was just wacked lol.
Its all good though, now I know what Im missing.
Nada, zilch, nothing...
Im glad I found this out before actually committing myself to a raid schedule, or paying to hop a server to join some l33t guild to film thier shit, cause frankly, that would have been a serious waste of my time I guess.

Gameplay > Graphics
Challenge > Gear
That is the reason you never enjoyed raiding, you never earned anything. How were you to know that the guild you were in wiped countless times/hours/days or months just so they could kill the mob that GAVE you gear. I pity that you never had the pleasure of dying to the same mob over and over till finally you learned where you wanted to fight it or you changed groups around just enough for just that encounter ... The problem you are experiencing is that you never raided, all you did was farm with a guild who did it all before you got there.
Unfortunately for you
Dirge + Keyboard "late in EoF" = free gear

Re: The End Game, whats the point?
I don't know. Seems like some severe exaggeration on both sides to me.
I don't know why other people raid, but I tend to raid when I hit max level and there is pretty much nothing else to do. The only way to get better stuff to improve your character is to go out and get better stuff, so, since most raid is no trade, I kind of need to be there when it drops. So, my schedule permitting, I'll raid when I can. Regardless if I am raiding, grouping, soloing, it's just a game I play, and it provides entertainment. I would presume that those in hardcore raid guilds are doing it for entertainment purposes.
As for end game raiding, there seem to be some wildly varying differences in opinion on what the time commitment is. Some people are basically claiming the raiders never leave the house. And, the raiders it seems say they play 0.27 seconds a night while clearing everything. I don't know all the major hardcore raid guilds, but I took a glance at several of their webpages, and 6-7 days a week, 4 hours a day, seemed pretty normal. I'm not gonna argue each specific raid guild attendance/time parameters, but if you assumed 4 hrs a day, 6 days a week, that would be pretty close to the mark. (I looked at Strike, Fable, and NP+. I looked at Disso's home page, and was unable to glean a time frame for them) Again, let me reiterate, my 3 minutes worth of research was hardly exhaustive, but I think from what I saw, it was actually representative. None of those times include any time the characters are on and not raiding.
Now, it would be somewhat interesting to kill endgame mobs, but that kind of time committment is not something I have. However, that doesn't mean I begrudge others from doing it. If people want to, and it is fun for them, (and it must be, they keep doing it), then more power to them. I can't for the life of me figure out how it would be fun to be called in the middle of the night to hit target soandso, but since I am not everyone, I can't speak for others. I know if my friend called me at 4am to go play golf, I would presume he had pretty much lost his mind. If someone called me at night to kill some mob, I'd think the same. Like I said, though, if someone else thinks that is fun, who am I to say different.
As far as flying off the handle, not all raid leaders rant and rave, nor do I think it is ever really necessary. Do people mess up, sure. Can people do better, sure. Is it absolutely necessary to crucify someone over it, no. Generally, when someone is publicly attacked, whether he/she did wrong or not, all they are generally going to do is publicly defend themself in the same manner. Strife never does anyone good from what I can see, except cause ill will.
Lastly, I never understand the weird elitism and arrogance I see displayed in this game. Absolutely nothing in this game is all that hard, and no encounter in it is all that hard to understand. If you think about the hardest, strongest, most complex encounter you ever defeated, and wrote it down what it took to defeat, it won't come off as much harder than describing what it takes to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
