It's ok to admit, you aren't alone. To these people, raiding is simply the means to the ends to acquire gear that makes people [like your friend you mentioned in the first post] drool over your gear. As much as you get off on showing people your labs relic, these people relish the challenge of developing an effective raid force of 24 different people and see the beauty of an efficient raid force executing a strategy for the kill~ in addition to getting some nice drool-worthy gear. It doesn't matter if it's AoM or Vox, some people just like to raid. Not to mention it is [arguably] the intended progression of the game itself. I feel pity for those that feel the end of the game comes after completing all 6-man instances and choose to not raid because they have some kind of distaste for raiders, or have had unsatisfying raiding experiences. Poor bastards. You are denying yourself some very exciting gaming. May sound dumb now, but that first MO kill was far and away the most unforgettable experience I have had in this game. The planet Earth could have blown up right then and I guarantee there would have been at least 24 people that would have died happy. If raiding doesn't do that for you, no biggie. You aren't obligated to feel like that, but don't get all butthurt and jealous either because others have felt that, want to feel that again, or are still trying to feel that way for the first time.

I guess it is fair to say some enjoy a smooth Unrest or SoF run, but the level of difficulty cannot be compared. That is beyond retarded. The real question here is not "What is the point of raiding?", the answer to that question is obvious, in the context of who is asking it. You have raided. You got some gear. Your friends drooled. All that = you feel better about yourself and you gain some perception that you've completed the game. Your particular 'itch' has been scratched. Grats?

Move on and play something else or enjoy the satisfaction of a buttery smooth Nizara run. The best answer for someone that has raided, gotten some gear and nothing else out of the experience; prompting the asking of your OP question is:

"Sorry you sucked at it" Grats on your labs fabled, the exit is that way.

First off, its a game, and for enjoyment. You cant get good at this game and actually make a living off it. With sports, you can.

Second off, you are subject to being noticed around the entire nation of you accel at said sport, even if you're NOT #1, even if you're team is far from #1. In this game, thats not even close. Anyone outside this game wont give two shits that you and 23 other ppl like you can conquer some virtual monster(s) being simulated through pixels.

Third off, sports are just as physically challenging as they are mentally. All you need for this game is logic, you dont even really need excellent motor skills. Let alone hand-eye coordination.

Fourth off, if you're good enough at a sport, you can get a scholarship, end up paying for your own education, and go on to make yourself a successful life.

Fifth : sports are endorsed as they are entertainment for OTHERS, not just yourself. You're not entertaining others when you play this game, just yourself. And if you are, well you're not getting paid for it...

Sixth : you cannot actually improve your well being by playing tthis game.. If anything it will fuck you up mentally as any hardcore raiders are completely addicted to this game, and it completely ruins your social life.

So many high end raid guilds are filled with assholes and degenerates. [on my server] There's only two that I know of [on my server] that are actually nice and realize its just a game and nothing to get cocky about.

I am an end game raider. We completed all instanced EOF during EOF. Our raid schedule is 8.5 hours per week. Yeah... like wow, 8.5 hours is soooo hard core.... /rolleyes

I bet you watch more television than 8 hours per week, sitting on your ass having coporate goober shoved into your eyes and ears.

the point is that some people are too stupid to read spell descriptions or understand simple game mechanics. and they are too stupid to organize themselves with others and show some discipline to reach a common goal. if you are too stupid for that you must be a looser in RL too. why would someone even consider playing a game like this if he doesn't want to be successfull in it? you play to win don't you? everything else is a waste of time. i cannot understand how non-raiders can spend as much time being online as raiders do. after a few months you have seen all of the non epic content in this game and have finished most quests. what the hell can you do ingame if not raiding?

so what's the point with hanging around in the game not playing it?

for me players being online for about 3hours a day not raiding endgame content are the real freaks. and don't say it's a question of time or of having no RL. It's only a question of not being too stupid to clear content with a few hours of raiding per week.

No, I do raid. And we do well for not being a hardcore raiding guild. I'm not bringing up anything about my sex life compared to yours, or about my income compared to yours. No, i dont even hardly watch much television either. Nor am I crap at life, and I am successful. I'm not jealous by a long shot, but nice attempt at a stab.

And im betting you put more than 8.5 hours into raiding when you were learning the zones for the first time, now that you have them on farm status, thats a different story.

And i wasnt referring to intramural sports.

Most of the high end [edit: hardcore] raid-guild members you come across are cocky assholes that think they're above all others. Its evident in the chat channels, and especially when you group with them.

I'm not going to be an asshole to someone that was just never taught the game mechanics and has not made eleven other characters, leveled them to 70 and now knows how all the class types function in a raid-level format.

There's always exceptions to rules and standards. ANd while you might only 'raid' 8.5hrs a week, which is far from the norm, im willing to bet you're on far more than that.
Look at all the people that are already level 80 or within two or three levels. Most if not all are hardcore raiding. last i checked to see who was all level 77-80, all of them were in hardcore, high-end raiding guilds. Thats the majority of the hardcore raiders.

I wouldnt consider 8.5hrs a week hardcore anyhow. I'm referring to the hardcore raiders. The guilds that have all contested mobs on farm status, call-lists, and are virtually available 24/7 for raiding.

Anyhow, i was not saying all raiders fit that mold... and yeah.. i was a bit pissed off when i posted anyhow >-<
