Default The End Game, whats the point?

WARNING- This may get to be a long winded post, but theres a point....(O and if you wanna cry in a reply about to much type to read, just to up your post count, FUCK YOU, in your moms mouth, personally, I am being totally serious with this question/post) - WARNING

So I was sitting at my laptop, editing some footage (I like to make EQ2 movies), and a friend was with me, who also plays EQ2. In one of the files there is an audio clip of a guild leader of a guild I was in for about 10 minutes (who shall remain nameless) and the audio clip was of the guild leader saying this, and I quote:

"So far, none of you new recruits has impressed me. Frankly, I find you all lacking, and if you dont get on your A game, I want you to know you will be replaced. I am sick of looking around and finding people not doing what I tell them, when I tell them. You will never find a guild as powerfull as this one, so if you cant cut it here, the only way for you to go after this is down, and if you want to keep your seat, you better shape up, or Ill ship you out. I am sick of having to explain encounters to people, and frankly, I have no problem booting you if you dont get it right. I know more about this game than anyone else on the server just about, so when I tell you to do something, you better fucking do it, and do it right then, or frankly, Ill be glad to dismiss you back to mdeiocrity. Our guild is currently second best on this server, and if were going to take awey the lead guilds spot of #1, you better shape up and do as your fucking told!"

Now my friend is listening to this, and hes like "Wow, you guys let him talk to you like that?" to which I replied, "Nah I didnt, I got booted during my trial because I was always like "Is this asshole for real?" and "WTF is this guys problem?".

We both had a good ole laugh at this, because frankly, Im the type of mother fucker in real life who just dont give a fuck. I mean, my dad doesnt disrespect me like that, cause he knows Id bust him in his fucking grill, without hesitation, as I would expect him to do to me, but hey, you know how it goes. You get some people behind a keyboard, and all the sudden they get hard as hell. In the joint we called it caged courage, cause you know, when the bars are slammed shut, you can be as bad as you want to, cause like a dog behind a fence in a yard, if theres no fear of reprisal, your a bad mother fucker. /shrug- honestly, Im too old for that shit now, and I always remember its just a video game, and since it doesnt earn me a paycheck, Ill just take it for what it is, a hobby.

Anyway, back to my point. So my buddy is really not even in the level 70 raid game at all yet, hes still grinding, and frankly, hes always been kind of droolin over my fabled shit, or my full suit of this bullshit or that, etc. He looks at me and says "Why would anyone let some dickhead talk to them like that?" and I replied "cause they are killing seriously end game shit, for seriously end game loots, and some people just trade thier pride and self respect for gear at that level of the game."
He then says, and Im not adding to this or embelishing it in any way,
"Well whats the difference between 4 hours in Unrest or SoF .vs 4 hours in TNT? I mean, other than theres 24 people as opposed to 6?"
So I replied with........ nothing. I didnt have an answer.

I mean, SoF is a bitch if your ina 6 man group with all legendary gear and takes just as long as TNT with a 24 man group in all fabled gear basicly right? You still have a group of people coordinating thier shit to take down mobs they couldnt take down alone, and if your lucky, 1% of the team gets to take home a single piece of useable loot.

I was kinda shocked. Other than bragging rights, whats the fuckin point? And as far as bragging rights goes, what is there to brag about if your in anything other than 1st place? "YAY! Im second best! Third best!" I dont get it.

So in the end, after dwelling on it for a short while, I decided on my reply: There isnt a difference really, except hardcore end game raiders dont get to go out 4-6 nights a week due to mandatory raid schedules, dkp penalties and ego. Other than that, theres not alot of difference between a Legendary toon and a Fabled one. You both have the quality of gear needed to handle the task at hand, its just one of you has a little better chance of catching some pussy on the weekends, or at least a good buzz.

So Im curious, am I missing something? Cause after trying to raid in a couple of seriously end game guilds since I returned to EQ2 last month, Ive come to the conclusion that Uber Raiding is sort of pointless. All that time spent becoming the most uber toon on the server and for what? Next expansion comes out, and BAM- in one day your 10 levels behind the mark, and after you earn those 10 levels, you get to wear legendary armor again while you farm your o so awesome fabled shit, which really, aint shit compared to the super uber avatar killing end gamers, who laugh at your fabled loots while wielding thier even more uber avatar loots.... YAY! Second place! Third place!

Sort of reminds me of a mouse on a wheel, running a race to no where, as fast as he can, just so he can be the first to get there.

So why the ego? Why the arrogant superiority? Why even bother to get on the mouse wheel?

So again I ask:

The End Game, whats the fuckin point? I seemed to have missed it somewhere.... someone enlighten me, please....

PS: Im not really trying to troll or start shit, I just thought since this is where all the ubers come to talk about shit, Id just ask the guys who are doing the deed...

It's all about disrespecting those lower on the totem pole. Internet game raiding and pvp is all about that.

feeling of achievement?
i dunno, eq2 so far has been odd in that there's really no progression to raiding or the content. in theory, you build up to being able to beat harder stuff and then the point is to get to the end and win. (just like most adventure games) of course, it doesn't exactly work like that in an mmo setting, but it's the same basic concept.

there have been threads like this before.
i think it just comes down to wanting to beat the content or having the best gear possible. sense of achievement either way.

What is the point in playing basketball for your local b grade team? You work hard to win the trophy, but in the end your team would be thrashed by better teams... What is the point?

The point is... it is fun, exciting and enjoyable. If it isn't fun, don't do it.

No point coming here and saying you hate it... if you hate it... dont do it. Simple.

I didnt say I hated it at all, never once. I just said I didnt understand why someone would dedicate thier lives to it, after trying it out myself.
Actually I like it a fuckin lot, Im just curious as to why some people take it so seriously, and feel like they are more important than those who dont do it like they do. I wasnt even trashing those who do it on the hardcore level like that, just asking if there was something I was missing, like some sort of secret end game rock paper scissors thing I wasnt getting.

Reading comprehension ftw I guess.

So basically you and your fellow recruits were sucking and got chewed for it.

Cry more?

Its aggravating as anything else imaginable to explain an encounter multiple times, tell people exactly what to do(who should already know how to play their fucking class) and still have that person or group of people screw up repeatedly causing the night's raid(s) to go much slower to complete if completed at all.

Hell if everyone is on their A game, doing what the hell they are supposed to do, its incredibly fun, but having a 30min zone turn into an 1-1/2 hour trip because people are fucking around? Or god forbid, before persistent instances, having people ninja afk, not pay attention and/or not do their jobs in EH causing a 4 hour run to either not complete or have people afk in the zone till the next night to complete.

Yeah guess what? If you want to be competitive at the top level or hell, complete the top zones regularly and easily before those zones are trivialized and having PuRs for, you either do your job or get your ass chewed for it until finally the fuck up is kicked to get someone who won't hurt the other 23 people on the raid.

Someone not doing their job, or in that situation, multiple people not doing their jobs, is frustrating and punishing those who are doing theirs.

If you are not willing to either play your class well and follow the game plan or be happy with being a non end game player.... tough shit, you're going to be a non top end disgruntled player.

Eh... forgot to add my last part that I cut out in that post up there when I was re-ordering it.

For those of us who take the time, invest the effort and are willing to deal with doing things not exactly the way we want to or waking up at 4am for contesteds the reward of all of that is to have the ability to play the game and pay our subscription knowing we are getting the fullest out of it.

The ability to raid at that level, which is much harder than any heroic zone, is fun.

Killing things that others can't even approach to downing is fun.

Throwing down the gauntlet and saying we have this server on lock down is hella fun.

Wasting time, loot and peace of mind on people who refuse to get with the game plan is not fun.

Raiding epic content compared to grouping up for heroic content is like the difference between pick up games of basketball/football/softball/volleyball/whatever and the collegiate/professional/championship series teams.

Yeah its the same game. But the game is on an entirely different level of play. And being part of that successfully is more rewarding than any twiddly link heroic grouping ever can be for anyone who has tasted it.

If you don't get that already though, you never will.

Yeah comparing Unrest group to a high end raid was the highlight of that retarded post.
