I think the bigger question is why go public with this information in the first place? If you have a friendship with him and respect him so highly, then why not let him announce this on his own terms and in his own way? You called him out on your own forum, and even commented that you'd hope he wouldn't mind if you leaked this...why not contact him directly in private and ask if it's true and if he would mind if you went public with it? I think the majority of us believe you had the inside information, but the way you handled it makes you look like all you've done this for is to create traffic to your website and to 'break the story first'. I don't think this is about truthfulness or lying - this is about you leaking a big story about probably the most well respected EQ employee without even contacting him personally.

I assumed this information was well known within SOE when I posted it. Had I known I would lose friends over this, or that it would have created problems for someone I like and who has always treated me well, I would not have posted the information.

Look at this from my side. I'd done this several times before, announcing other people leaving. Why was it not a problem before, but it is now? Yeah, it's the person.
