It's not needed to beat the encounters, I agree. But I dont agree that full sets of avatar gear give little advantage to your raid. Actually the difference between instanced geared character and avatar gear is pretty big (in terms of dps at least).

And I'll whole-heartedly agree that for teh most part, gear means very little - it's the drive of the person behind the keyboard that makes the difference. Surely if you went into raids wearing handcrafted shit iyou could tell a difference, but as long as you don't take it to the extreme they are basically the same.

I would bet that in my gear, which is far from spectacular, I'd be able to do the exact same encounter as Jaraxx given the same other 23 raiders, and given his same drive. If I were on whatever server Jaraxx is on I'd even put my money where my mouth is and let him play my toon just to prove that gear's not a huge issue.

Fomka - no one can argue gear doesn't make a difference but do you think Disso wouldn't of been able to get into Veeshans Peak without avatar gear? Do you really think that gear is making a huge impact on this game? No - once again it helps. It just happens to be top guilds have the drive to succeed and then hence kill the mobs and get the good gear. That gear is not needed to clear that content. People using that as an excuse is for it being too tough or too easy is dumb.

I bet you anything I could get my entire guild to take off our avatar gear and we would still be able to get as far as we are now. It may take us a day or two more. But it wouldn't make that big of a difference.

Fact of the matter is, There are indeed guilds in existance who have had to call a night without killing the Thuuga zones spider at the end.

If you want a true personal challenge out of a video game that will cater to whatever skill level you sit at, play one that has you competeting against another players skill, not against a AI and scripted enemy. FPS vs MMO's. Anyone can learn game design and figure out what it takes. Sure, something as primitive as Street Fighter II showed its difficulties as I newly stepped into cranked game difficulty settings. But eventually I was able to beat the game soley with one character and any character. Its cause its an AI based game and it and its mechanics/strats can be learned. Whereas even at my 6th year of playing Quake 3 online, there were still players who were able to just slap my face on several occasions.

Are people here honestly suggesting that a game where your enemies are AI and script based can be made difficult without being impossible or having the factor of timing/luck invovled in its success? I never found video games hard, only factor making Eq2 more difficult is you need to find a group of 24 people who don't find video games hard. I moved to MMO's because mentally its a huge break from playing FPS.
