yeah i don't know why class mergers are being talked about especially after all the "success" SWG had with them. I can tell you this, class merger was one of the reason MANY left SWG NGE.
And i can imagine thats exactly what would happen here.
its the same people that are going to fuck this game up that fucked up SWG. the whiney "wah this content is lame, my class sucks ... i grinded to 80 in less than a week and now im bored theres nothing to do".
this is exactly what happened to SWG jackasses so worried about balance, so bored because they flew through all the content so worried that X class is doing Y more dps than you. you fuckin min/maxing raiding asshats that are a disease to games more than a help.
go to wow where everything is streamlined and leave my game alone.

Hmmm why everytime now when I read eq2flames, I think that eq2 off. forums were moved to new domain?..........
Seriously, this whole whine (spell merges, class merges, more solo/grp content) looks exactly like on official boards, only difference is that here you can type "fuck" and not get banned.

Those zones were fun because it gave us fun places to grind up the levels. Places you need skilled groups which will reward you with some decent xp for the night as well as rare gems needed for other things in the game, spells, and some pretty decent items that if nobody needed could have been sold.
Problem we're seeing is that we all fly through the levels, and there is little reason to go through these dungeons at max level, other than to finish a quest.

Hmm, people are suggesting the same thing both here, and on the official forums? I guess they must be on to something.

Re: A Large-Scale Fundamental Change to EQ2
Ok, I just fail to see what the big problem is in the first place. I LIKE the game, or I'd be playing somethign different.
I tried WoW and I tried LOTRO, both bored me to tears specifically BECAUSE there were only 6 classes, the CAs/spells were minimal (you hit the same 4-6 buttons over and over) and because there no depth to the raid content in terms of needing to build a diverse raid force.
Could a couple of classes be consolidated? Sure. Would this be a giant improvement in the game? I fail to see it.
It's trivial to roll a new toon if your guild decides for whatever reason they no longer want a SK but they DO want a XXX (take your pick)
It's trivial to gear up a new toon in those circumstances unless your guild is full of loot-whoring pricks, and buying master? gimme a fuckin break! If a guild can't manage to come up with masters for a member they've asked to start a new toon/betray, then the guild sucks and should stop whining.
I'd love to see a revamp of the classes to make them a little more distinct, ala LU13. But eliminate classes entirely? (which is in effect what you're talking about with merges) Thats' just crazy.
People LIKE being necros, others LIKE being conjurers. Why is this a big problem for anyone?
Spell consolidation? um, ok, there are a few things such as buffs that COULD be consolidated without breaking anythign major, but why? How would this improve the game?
Seriously, I have one of every archetype, a mystic, inquis, templar, wizard, conjy, swashy, dirge, zerker, guard and fury. I don't find on any of those toons that having 6 buffs instead of 2 is a problem. Quite the opposite, because in some cases I may forgo one buff in favor of another due to concentration constraints. I LIKE that about the game.
The people calling for massive changes are forgetting that people are really enjoying the game as it is. And for all the crybabies saying how the new content sucks, all I can say is: ask the 3000 people on Crushbone Sunday evening, because THEY don't seem to agree. A GM told me the population on the server that night was: "let's just say it's WAY WAY beyond "heavy load."
And lastly, the people calling for massive changes, all I can say is three letters that should chill you right the hell out: SWG.
If you think a massive change to the game system (and I don't mean spell changes or some consolidation of a few spells) is something SOE is going to do well, then you know nothing about SOE's spectacularly poor record with such things. And after 3 years, I think loyal players deserve to not have the game totally changed on them.
While the game has changed a lot since launch, and not all for the better (I LIKED WORTS and badass crafted gear) It's not become a fundamentaly different experience. I think what's being advocated by a lot of people on this thread is exactly that...they're looking for a fundamentally different game.
That's fine, I'm all for different strokes etc. But if you really don't like the game as it is, why don't you try something else instead of asking Sony to make radical, wholesale alterations to a game that from what I see in game, is a pretty popular enterprise.

The other night Antonia Bayle was listed as FULL while the other PvE servers and Nagafen were HEAVY, with the exchanges being Medium. The last time I recall seeing a server at full load was when the game came out and AB was the most popular server.

Funny, I keep hearing that the wider rollout of the unbalanced Jedi class is what actually killed SWG. But I didn't play the game so I have to rely on what I'm told. I'm not being lied to, am I?
EQ2's situation is unique. We're talking about merging pairs of classes that were already single classes ideologically.
In other words, RE-merging.
