Ideally, this should be the case.

AOE ranges should be clearly marked via the effect. If a dragon is breathing fire in a frontal-cone, one should be able to see this attack and gauge the area of effect based on graphics.

Big events like AOEs, summoning adds, memwipes, etc. should have lead-in graphics to clearly indicate they will be occurring.

I suppose it's just different personalities. Some people prefer buying a computer and not having to deal with any 3rd party software or hardware, and others want the freedom to tinker with any software or hardware that they want.
These tools are a crutch for designers to release overcomplicated or unintuitive content, whether we're talking ACT or eq2i, EQ2 or WoW. If the game can't lead you through on its own, it's self-defeating.

Ive been saying this forever. It actually takes away from the game to not have these things included... SOE sucks at making good raid content anyway... Go through VP and tell me any of that is better than Naxx. 4 horseman encounter is and will probably alwasy be a better endgame raid than anything eq2 can throw at us. So fucking sad but true.

Yea, that's EQ2 for you

It's not the total reason I cancelled my account -- SOE mods calling me a "troll" & accusing me of deliberately trying to disrupt the community is what pissed me off -- but the fact is I was on the verge of cancelling anyway. I very quickly grew sick of their obsession with making EQ2 so easy a freekin' monkey can play it.

Maiden's was the only single group instance left in the game that was even remotely challenging, & now it's been nerfed. WTF, SOE ... way to continue listening to witless, unskilled n00btards that refuse to learn how to play.

I guess now I get to find out whether or not my PC can handle Vanguard, just to see if its even remotely worth playing

Prior to the recent balls-up disaster known as ROK, I strongly believed that EQ2 had both better graphics, & better gameplay, than WoW.

Now, with the sour taste of ROK thoroughly contaminating my memory, I'm only sure about the graphics. Pre-ROK is still better, but ... I have to admit that WoW's Burning Crusade expac was very solid, very well done, & more polished/finished than was ROK.

I tend to agree with Holymoly -- someone with whom I rarely agreed on the SOE Forums, but whatever -- that at least for me, EQ2 is done.

Ok... I happen to agree that I lked the pre-RoK style more as well (more challenging group zones/instances). However, all you people who keep calling RoK a "disaster"... I have to point out that from a sales/feedback standpoint this was one of the most successful expansions they released. So while some of us may not care for it entirely, it certainly wasn't a failure in the minds of the developers... unfortunately.

Also, as for you saying you're done with EQ2... while that is certainly your right, do you always jump ship upon seeing a small leak in the hull? Come on people, it always changes- change is inevitable. I seriously doubt that the next expansion will be just like RoK at all.

You just said that it was good from a sales standpoint. Why would the next expansion differ from RoK when that's the case?

Because it was the case before. They claimed KoS was far more successful than DoF, and they weren't really the same. Then EoF cam out and was different as well. I never said SOE made sense. /shrug
