illuminator, i would go with you 100 percent. we need MORE competition, not less. The idea of considering whether to grp with someone b/c it may help their guild is not bad gameplay, it is fundamental to the whole guild model of the game. We need more of that.

I am in thew fortunate position of having evolved to the point where I do not take gaming personally, so I like the notion of really intense competition. If I lose, so be it. If I win, well, I get what, a little gold star? hehe

Who said a couple pages back they want to kill the person who introduced instances? I agree. it is LAZY game design.

But as I said in my ear;lier post, there needs to be good mechanisms in place so that top guilds can be unseated.

BTW, hearth, any competition on permafrost yet?

Contested mobs are slowing fading out in MMO's so i wouldn't expect much.

Holy Guacamole, that's a big no. Heck, a big NOOOO. Every person I looked at seemed to fit the mammoth playtime to a tee. (One was right out of the ballpark, chuckle...
Seriously what the fuck are you talking about? If you are looking at the /played time and using that as your justification to people not having real lives and only playing the game 16 hrs a day, then you are a complete fucking retard.

Most of us have been playing the characters we are playing since the early T5 days. Back when there was NO OFFLINE selling, which inflated a lot of people's playtime due to having to sit in your inn room afk in a bazzaar style economy system... Not to mention, I know for a fact that I leave my computer on all night while I am sleeping and at school, and generally leave my toon logged in. So no, I haven't actually played the entire 300+ days that my /played says.

Using play time as an excuse for you and/or your guild's short comings is dumb. Most higher end guilds only put in extra time to learn encounters and after they are on farm status, they play less than most casual players do.

So seriously man, stop whining because you're jealous other people are getting gear that is unattainable for you. You can always join a guild that is killing contested mobs WITHOUT having to lose your so called real life.

1. The vast majority of players do not want the sort of competition that comes with contested mobs. While some raiders like the thrill of rushing to a contested mob, most people are simply annoyed when another group jumps a mob they've been camping.

2. Contested mobs cause all sorts of CSR headaches and in-game drama that spills over into forums. All in all, dealing with the fallout of contested mobs costs companies money.

3. Instances and triggered encounters allow for better quest and encounter design. There's far more that could be done in an instance that simply wouldn't work in an open zone - could the end event of Unrest be done in a non-instanced format?

Karnor Castle
Chardok

Why aren't the complainers yelling to get those instanced? Are they not the same as contested but just at the group level.

For that matter you better get Jarsath Waste instanced also. Because all the named there are highly contested with the drops they have. I farm them all the time and try and lock them out so others can't. And plenty of other people do also.

And if the entire game gets instanced then what is the point of it being an MMO.

Having to loot items from 7 different mobs in order to spawn an 8th? Yea, that's like Ghazi in Bonemire. Kill all the monoliths and collect the bits to spawn the big dragon. They could easily do it on a contested heroic level, or even solo if they felt like it. No more difficult to implement than a ring event.

Instance everything, I can't monopolise one mob, like I used to do to the Butler and Seneschal in EoF, because 1) I don't have the time anymore, and 2) I can't solo them, so make an "easy" instance option... Oh no... wait...

A triggered encounter is not contested.
