Default Thinking of coming back to Norath

I played EQ2 for a while with a friend about a year ago, then quit due to real life issues (marriage, job and so on). I’m getting a new laptop soon though and I just feel the itch again. I know everyone here must be tired of these same old questions, but I’ve searched around a bit and could use some advice for my return…
  • When I reactivate, I’ll have all the expansions up to EoF. I know if I want to start a little Sarnak then I need RoK, but if not is there a reason to get the expansion until I have a higher level character? What level is Kunark valuable?
  • What class to play? I’ve played a healer in other games and am confident I could get the hang of it fast. Inquisitor, Defiler and Warden all sound cool to me. I’d have a lot to learn as a tank, but I already have a 30 bruiser waiting for me to pick him up. SK also intrigues me. I’ve also never really played a clothie, but Warlock and Coercer sound good. Should I stick with what I know – healing – or branch out? What classes are fun and needed in a group? I’ll also be soloing quite a bit from necessity (wife and child) so that’s a consideration.
Here’s what I like about each class:

Inquisitor – I like gathering the cool looking gear, battle cleric thing sounds good, I know I can heal
Defiler – who doesn’t want to throw around the VooDoo?
Warden - I like ports and travel powers, but refuse to play a fury
Bruiser – he’s already 30, great survivability and independence
SK – Again with the cool gear, also seems very independent
Warlock – AoE damage makes me smile
Coercer – With the charms it seems this guy can do just about anything as long as he’s willing to be seconds from death at all times

Advice?

Play the class that you enjoy...

ROK has the noob zone of 1-20 for new sarnaks then the rest is high level in Kylong Plains that starts at lvl 68.

For good solo classes...it depends on whether you want the fights to be quick or take some time...healers can solo but it goes a bit slower than say a mage or a brawler.

Chanters are asked for quite a bit in groups for crowd control depending on the zone...healers are always asked for...and good dps.

Most of the classes you listed are pretty easy to play....just as I said above...depends on how quick you want to work through the content of the game, playstyle and time alotted to play and finally what you would like to do with your class as far as end game content goes.

Good luck =)

That's just what I would say.

However, if you do come back, I would agree with playing whatever class you're most interested in. Personally, I like trying out the different classes to see what the best fit is.

If you have upgraded to an Nvidia 8800 series or Vista you will want to look through the tech help forum. There are a lot of users having some issues with EQ2.

Not on vista now but I do have 8800gts 640mb, had 0 issues with eq2 running on it. Was on vista RC1 for a while with x1900xt and didn't have issues with eq2 either. Not saying there aren't any but just saying I have not seen these issues.

There are hundreds of people having issues with EQ2 and the 8xxx series of Nvidia cards. Its been a problem since the series came out and Sony knows all about the issues. Some people have no issues while others find it unplayable. Thats just the way it is with all the different configurations of PCs out there.

This thread has been going on for over a year now about this issue.

8800 GTX - Performance problems if you can believe it..
